The Director of Campus Mental Health Services leads the Counseling Center's clinical services and staff, providing mental health support to a diverse student body. This role includes policy development, crisis management, direct clinical services, and collaboration with campus departments to promote student well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Lead and supervise Counseling Center staff, providing guidance on mental health issues such as crisis management, anxiety, depression, substance use, and more.
+ Recruit, train, and evaluate staff and student interns ensuring staffing levels meet student needs.
+ Oversee mental health caseloads, respond to crises, and collaborate with campus departments for effective crisis communication and planning.
+ Maintain a caseload of students, offering individual and group counseling, psychotherapy, and clinical consultation.
+ Provide referrals to off-campus resources and coordinate with hospitals for psychiatric care.
+ Continually assess the effectiveness of the counseling services by reviewing data on efficiency, demographics, service usage, clinical effectiveness and epidemiological trends.
+ Manage the department's budget.
+ Ensure adherence to accreditation standards and participate in the re-accreditation process as needed.
+ Develop and execute community outreach initiatives to promote mental health awareness.
+ Participate in Threat Assessment teams and respond to life-threatening emotional crises as needed.
+ Manage the on-call system for after-hours support and provide backup when necessary.
+ Collaborate with other College departments and external partners as needed and develop and sustain effective professional relationships with students, faculty, staff, health care providers and others.
+ Serve on College committees as needed.
+ Maintain professional development through participation in conferences and professional organizations to remain current in the field to support an evolving student population.
+ Deliver quality customer services to both internal and external constituents in a professional, helpful and courteous manner.
+ Promote and maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment inclusive of students, faculty and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds.
+ Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with the mission, goals, and core values of the College.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
Ability and willingness to accommodate a flexible schedule, including some evening and weekend hours required.
This title is in Appendix A of the SUNY Policies of the Board of Trustees and, as a consequence, incumbents serving in this title are not eligible for permanent appointment (tenure), but instead receive renewable term appointments.

Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, with five (5) years of experience in mental health services.
+ New York State license in psychology.
+ Strong commitment to diversity and inclusion in mental health care.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel.
+ Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
+ Exceptional organization and planning skills.
+ Excellent group facilitation and presentation skills in working with diverse constituencies.
+ Ability to collaborate with others.
+ Ability and willingness to accommodate a flexible schedule, including some evening and weekend hours.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ Seven (7) years of experience in mental health services.
+ Experience providing advocacy and counseling to a diverse population.
+ Experience working with college-age populations or in college health settings.
+ Experience providing clinical supervision to trainees.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time, Appendix A UUP position.
+ For the first 10 working days, beginning Monday, June 9, 2025, and ending Friday, June 20, 2025, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.
+ CLOSING DATE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS: July 8, 2025
+ SALARY: $115,000 + $4,000 in downstate location pay = $119,000 Total Compensation. Salary may increase commensurate with experience.
+ ANTICIPATED START DATE: August 2025
