We are looking for you to join our team as a Mechanical Engineering Manager 1 to support our MLSS Engineering organization, based out of Troy Hill, MD and Baltimore, MD.
What You’ll get to do:
This team is responsible for the design and development of Land and Maritime Radar hardware which includes electronic packaging, microelectronic packaging, prototyping, manufacturing process development, production support, and development of radar servicing & upgrade kits.
The functional lead’s roles and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
+ Managing a functional group comprised of approximately 8 mechanical engineers of varying experience levels, including performance management, merit planning, job assignment management/prioritization, career development, new employee onboarding and coaching.
+ Engaging the functional team with timely flow-down of information and fostering robust collaboration within the team.
+ Collaborating with project team leads, to support project planning and execution activities, labor and material cost estimation, staffing, design process execution, etc.
+ Maintaining awareness of each group member’s project responsibilities and performance, providing guidance, and helping them to identify resources needed to overcome obstacles and meet project objectives.
+ Developing and maintaining a working knowledge of applicable design processes, guidelines, policies, and best practices, and ensuring that all functional team members are aware of and are compliant with these items.
+ Supporting and leading department initiatives, which could include process improvement, workforce engagement, talent recruiting and interviewing, training material development, technology roadmap development, cross-organization collaboration, etc.
The various functional management tasks typically comprise approximately 20% of chargeable time, on average. The manager will be expected to maintain a technical or project leadership role that comprises the remaining 80%.
The technical or project leadership roles and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
+ Support a technical program as mechanical design lead or production lead.
+ Supporting the Control Account Management (CAM) of a technical project. Includes team management, Cost & Schedule planning, Earned Value Management, workload forecast planning, task prioritization, risk management, and generation of business reports.
+ Supporting the Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead of a technical project. Includes:
+ Provide technical leadership to team to meet program cost, schedule, and technical execution.
+ Coordinate with Business Management for review of Earned Value metrics and Control Account Management
+ Coordinates work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms/conditions of contract to meet contractual deliverables
+ Create and maintain collaboration with cross-functional teams (Mechanical, Systems, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, SW, etc.)
+ Interpret statements of work assigned by program leadership
+ Work with Global Supply Chain for procurement status and suppliers to articulate project requirements
+ Assist the lead in briefing internal and customer leadership on progress of work assigned
_This position is contingent upon the ability to obtain an interim secret clearance prior to start or the successful transfer of an interim secret clearance or higher._
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years of experience, master’s degree with 3 years of experience, Ph.D. with 1 years of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or related technical fields; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
+ U.S Citizenship is required.
+ Ability to obtain/maintain an Active DoD Secret clearance.
+ An interim DoD Secret clearance is required to start.
+ Ability to work onsite full-time at the BWI and Troy Hill facility.
+ Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in an engineering and/or technical leadership role
+ Demonstrated success leading, collaborating, and building teams on complex technical projects.
+ Familiarity with the processes, roles, tools and facilities related to engineering development & documentation.
+ Experience in the different phases of the hardware engineering lifecycle: requirement, architecture, concepts, critical design, drawing development, test, vendor/build follow and production support.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ An active DoD Secret clearance or higher
+ Demonstrated success in a functional management, project management, or similar technical leadership role.
+ Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) & Control Account Management (CAM) techniques, and responsibilities.
+ Experience with the design and development of ruggedized electronic hardware, in particular antennas, microelectronic packages, and circuit card assemblies
+ Experience with Microsoft Project, MPLM, Siemens Teamcenter, NX.

Salary Range: $112,600.00 - $169,000.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
