Position Overview
The City of Henderson announces an examination to create an eligibility list and to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Public Safety Wellness Coordinator (Grant Funded) in the Department of Emergency Management. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to one (1) year.
Under limited supervision, provides support, assistance, information, marketing, training, education, and crisis intervention to assist public safety personnel in coping with mental health wellness-related concerns and stress management; and performs related duties as assigned.
NOTE: This is a grant-funded position. Funding for this position is currently approved through September 2026, and continuation of this position is subject to ongoing grant funding. Upon the expiration of grant funds, the position will be eliminated and the employees taking this position will have rights as outlined in the “reduction in force” language in the applicable contract or civil service rules.
IDEAL CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate for this role is a highly skilled professional with extensive experience in public safety or military and mental health. They possess a deep understanding of crisis intervention, behavioral health support, and strategies to proactively help first responders overall wellness. This candidate is adept at assessing risk, de-escalating crises, and developing proactive approaches to address mental health needs within the public safety sector.

Minimum Qualifications
+ Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in counseling, psychology, social work, sociology, human services, or a closely related field
+ Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in public safety, mental health counseling, crisis intervention, substance abuse counseling, or a closely related field
+ Note: An equivalent combination of related training and experience may be considered
+ Possess and maintain a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483
+ Must obtain and maintain a certificate in individual and group CISM within six (6) months of hire as a condition of continued employment
+ Desirable: Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (CADC) or above Substance Abuse Counselor in the State of Nevada
+ Desirable: An appropriate license to practice as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor
+ Desirable: Certification for treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or Post-Traumatic Stress Injury (PTSI)
