    **Pay Range:** $57,137 - $90,000

     

    Rush salaries are determined by many factors including, but not limited to, education, job-related experience and skills, as well as internal equity and industry specific market data. The pay range for each role reflects Rush’s anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position. Offers may vary depending on the circumstances of each case.

    Summary:

    The Assistant Director of Development Communications will support the fundraising initiatives of Rush’s Office of Philanthropy by providing editorial services — including copy editing, proofreading and fact checking. In conjunction with the Senior Director of Development Communications and the entire Strategic Development Communications team, the Assistant Director facilitates adherence to editorial style standards across the Philanthropy department and disseminates philanthropic messaging across varied channels and audiences. Additionally, the Assistant Director will contribute to writing a range of philanthropic communications, including website content; promotional copy for events and special fundraising initiatives; and donor, alumni and volunteer stories. The Assistant Director exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

    Requirements:

    + Bachelor’s degree, preferably in English, journalism or other communications-related major

    + Two or more years of experience in a communications-related role

    + Excellent writing, speaking and listening skills

    + Familiarity with Associated Press style

    + Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

    + Professional demeanor

    + Experience working collaboratively on communications-related deliverables; welcomes constructive criticism and strives for continuous improvement

    + Ability to prioritize project requests effectively to ensure both quality and timeliness

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat Pro and a willingness to learn new technology

    + Availability for occasional early morning or evening events

    Preferred **Requirements:**

    + Communications experience in health care, higher education and/or philanthropy

    + Interviewing experience, including the ability to speak with experts about complex subject matter

    + Familiarity with fundraising initiatives, such as events, appeals, gift proposals, etc.

    Responsibilities:

    + Provide copyediting and proofreading support to philanthropy staff, ensuring high-quality communications that elevate our constituents’ perception of Rush. Working closely with the Senior Director of Development Communications, maintain a comprehensive editorial review process for all written material produced by the Office of Philanthropy — including a variety of project types — to improve clarity and readability, ensuring communications are error-free and adhere to Rush and Associated Press style.

    + Represent the Office of Philanthropy on Rush’s Style Committee. Ensure editorial style updates and guidelines are shared across the department. Support updates to and usage of the department’s Inclusive Communications Guide, in collaboration with Philanthropy colleagues and Rush Marketing Communications.

    + Assist in writing and editing a variety of philanthropy materials, including fundraising collateral and solicitations, donor and alumni stories, and stewardship publications.

    + Conduct interviews, perform research and write articles for Rush’s donor publications and e-communications, gift planning marketing, Giving to Rush website and other communication vehicles.

    + Support awareness of philanthropic initiatives by drafting promotional copy for a variety of internal and external marketing channels.

    + Support the Strategic Development Communications team’s efforts to ensure approved content is easily searchable and well-organized.

    + Implement special projects and perform other duties as needed.

    + Works with colleagues across the Office of Philanthropy and the Rush System, exemplifying innovation, collaboration, accountability, respect and excellence throughout daily work.
