Duties Description PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:• Data entry; update, or change information in payroll systems as necessary by agency operations and audits• Answer various types of communications (phone, email, fax, and letters) from employees, and managers concerning payroll topics, salaries, issues, etc.• Calculate employee salaries taking into account eligibility of miscellaneous payments and additional factors; may include reconstruction of histories• Process complicated payroll transactions and all related documents (for example, may calculate grievances, disciplinary hearings, leave with half pay entitlements, and all related payments, etc.)• Conduct regular audits to ensure being paid according to Civil Service Rules, negotiating agreements, and Office of the State Comptroller Rules and Regulations• Process corrective payroll or payroll related transactions in various computer systems to rectify errors and certification issues; may include contacting control agencies, researching reference material, and coordinating interoffice.• Ability to meet strict deadlines and act independently• Deliver informational sessions and new employee orientations of payroll topics• Preparing reports, forms, and maintaining records via various methods• Other duties as assigned.#LI-NB1#LI-AK1LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/nys-office-for-people-with-developmental-disabilities/posts/?feedView=all
Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: For Payroll Assnt Trainee: There are no minimum education or experience requirements for this title. For Payroll Assnt: One year of payroll experience, which included computing time worked, salaries, and deductions.

HELPS Program titles may be filled via a non-competitive appointment. This means that you do not need to take an exam to qualify, but you do need to meet the minimum qualifications of the title. If you are hired under the HELPS Program, you will be first be appointed as a temporary employee. If you are performing successfully in the position, your appointment will be changed from temporary to permanent non-competitive. Once you are in permanent status, your official probationary period will begin and you may take any promotion exam for which you are qualified. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), employees hired under NY HELPS are expected to have their permanent non-competitive employment status converted to permanent competitive status. You will not have to take an exam to gain permanent competitive status. • The assignment of PS&T employees will be made in accordance with any agreed upon Memorandum of Understanding between PEF and the local DDSO regarding the posting of job vacancies. • Preference will be given to OPWDD employees impacted by closures. The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments have been made under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time for a qualifying employer.
