    Senior Accounting Assistant

    Position Summary:

    At the Long Island State Veterans Home, our Senior Accounting Assistants are responsible for ensuring implementation of accurate billing and collection practices to minimize the financial impact on receivables of the Home. The incumbent will be required to interface and work closely with all nursing home staff. Some contact with outside agencies and consulting firms may also be expected.

    Duties of a** **Senior Accounting Assistant** **may include the following but are not limited to:

    + Billing for Medicare (Part A & B), Medicaid, Private, Insurance, NAMI, Physician, and Adult Day Health Care.

    + Analyze the accounts receivable by pay source, verify that billing has been completed and payment received. Follow up on outstanding accounts to maximize cash flow.

    + Input and verify census and insurance data when needed.

    + Implement procedures to ensure accurate billing and collection from third party payors and physicians billing.

    + After initial collection procedures have failed, set up accounts to be turned over to the Attorney General’s office.

    + Monitor all Medicaid remittances, review any case denied, and rebill if necessary or call the Department of Social Services to find out the approval status.

    + Assist in Medicaid Managed Care (MLTC) setup, billing, and collection.

    + Handle the deposit and posting of payments from all payors into individual resident accounts, general ledger accounts and transmittal of deposit information to the SUNY Bursar.

    + Data entry of all pharmacy cash receipts in QS1 system and monthly closing functions.

    + Enroll residents in Medicare Part D plans.

    + Oversee all banking for the residents. Maintain records of petty cash and all duties pertaining to petty cash. Prepare and mail the patient fund quarterly statements.

    + Reconcile Resident Trust Fund bank statements when necessary.

    + Implement more automated methods to provide financial and statistical reporting of data.

    + Assist in the processing of the financial reports/data for the Director of Patient Accounts and any audits that may arise.

    + Backup all job duties in the Business Office (including but not limited to) the month end billing and closing procedures, tying out census, and Adult Daycare billing).

    + Assist in setup, billing and reporting for Veterans Administration.

    + Assist in various office work (i.e., typing, filing and ordering supplies, etc.).

    Required Qualifications:

    Bachelor Degree from an accredited college plus a minimum of nine years nursing home billing and collection experience. In lieu of a Bachelor degree, an Associate Degree plus a minimum of fifteen years nursing home billing and collection experience. Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, NAMI billing, and collection work. Proficiency with various PC software, including Excel and Word.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Experience using eMedNY/ePaces, FISS/DDE and ADL financial software (or equivalent NH billing software). Experience in the preparation of Medicaid applications, recert process and guidelines. Preferred knowledge of various financial reports and bookkeeping. Involvement with OMIG and various audits.

    Working Conditions:

    Working conditions may involve exposure to infectious disease, blood, body fluids and/or tissue as well as other unpleasant elements such as accidents, injuries and illness. May be exposed to and be required to handle varying unpredictable, emergency and crisis situations. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours and pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.

    Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:

    + The selected candidate must successfully clear a background investigation.

    + Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from the Long Island State Veterans Home Employee Health Department.

    + Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.

    + Provide a copy of the required license(s)/certificate(s).

This means that when the Long Island State Veterans Home is faced with an emergency, employees in such positions are required to remain at their work location or to report to work.

    + The LISVH is a 24/7 skilled nursing facility. As such, all positions are subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary to meet the operating needs of the facility.

    + This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair.
