    The Oncology Thematic Research Center at BMS is a key research and early development engine, responsible for the discovery and development of novel oncology therapeutics for patients. Centered at our state-of-the-art research sites in Cambridge and Seattle, scientists focus on novel targets and pathways for tumors that are refractory to current therapies. With a deep understanding of the causal human biology, we are able to leverage our multiple modality platforms to best match the modality to the mechanism and desired outcome. We are a fully integrated drug discovery through translational and early clinical development organization which exploits state-of-the-art in vitro, in vivo and ex-vivo models of Cancer biology and Immuno-oncology to identify and validate targets. We partner closely with colleagues in Translational Medicine, Informatics and Predictive Sciences and Early Clinical Development to generate biomarker and patient enrichment hypotheses to enable efficient decision making in early clinical trials. We are optimally positioned to complement the world-class translational expertise, biology and leading academic research centers in the area.

    Position Summary:

    We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Flow Cytometry Senior Specialist/Flow Core Manager/In Vitro Pharmacology Scientist to join our Oncology Thematic Research Center (TRC) on a part-time basis. The ideal candidate will be proficient in managing and operating various flow cytometry instruments and providing in vitro pharmacology support. This role requires a deep understanding of flow cytometry concepts, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with scientists from diverse backgrounds.

    Position Responsibilities:

    + **Flow Cytometry Laboratory Support:**

    + Provide daily quality control (QC), monthly maintenance, and vendor service coordination.

    + Schedule preventative maintenance and ensure instrument standardization.

    + Manage databases and maintain user training programs on various flow cytometry instruments (e.g., Cytek Aurora, BD Fortessa, BD Aria, Beckman Coulter Cytoflex, Sony M900).

    + **Training and Support:**

    + Deliver comprehensive hands-on training to team members.

    + Assist researchers in experimental design and execution of flow cytometry experiments, including panel design, cell isolation, sample preparation, staining, data acquisition, cellular sorting, data analysis, and presentation.

    + **Laboratory Management:**

    + Maintain laboratory stocks of supplies and reagents.

    + Interface with Unity Lab Services for systems contract coverage, preventive maintenance, and service calls to minimize downtime.

    + Communicate regularly with Oncology TRC and other team members about the status and performance of flow cytometry instrumentation.

    + **In Vitro Pharmacology Support:**

    + Perform tissue culture, flow receptor density determination, cell cycle analysis, FACS primary blood immune profiling, cytotoxicity assays, clonogenicity assays, cell activation assays (including ADCC/ADCP assays), and protein and RNA analysis using Western blots and QPCR.

    Basic Qualifications:

    + Bachelor's Degree

    + 5+ years of academic and/or industry experience

    OR

    + Master's Degree3+ years of academic / industry experience

    OR

    + PhD

    + No experience required

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + BA or MA with at least 5+ years of experience in a flow cytometry core lab within an industry or academic setting.

    + Proficient knowledge in flow cytometry with at least 4 years of experience applying these techniques in research, preferably in an industry setting.

    + Experience operating multiple flow cytometry platforms (e.g., BD, Sony, Cytek) and specialized analysis software (e.g., FlowJo, FCSExpress).

    + Demonstrated experience in training and supervising associates, preferably in an industry setting.

    + Hands-on experience developing flow cytometry-based methods and managing laboratory flow core operations.

    + Previous experience performing laboratory work, including handling cell cultures, cytotoxicity assays, and analyzing protein and DNA/RNA samples using various methodologies (e.g., flow cytometry, MSD/ELISA, Luminex, RNAi, CRISPR, qPCR, primary cell isolation, culture, and functional assays).

    + Excellent organizational skills, high attention to detail, and a commitment to completing tasks accurately and timely.

    + Must be collaborative, resourceful, and take initiative.

    + Strong interpersonal skills and exceptional communication skills (both verbal and written).

    + Ability to exercise independent discretion and judgment to solve problems.

    + Strong analytical and computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.

     

    The starting compensation for this job is a range from $129,640 - $157,100 , plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).

     

    The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
