    Job Summary

    The Supervisor, Pharmacy Technician of Pharmacy & Formulary is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the pharmacy technician team to ensure timely and accurate processing of prescription claims, prior authorizations, and clinical programs. This role is critical in supporting all Lines of Businesses, including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial line of business (LOBs) by ensuring compliance with all federal and state regulatory and contract requirements.

     

    The position supervises all aspects of running an efficient team, including hiring, supervising, coaching, training, disciplining, and motivating direct reports. to maintain high-quality service standards. Additionally, the role involves cross-functional collaboration with other teams within Pharmacy, Customer Solutions Center, Quality Improvement, and other internal departments.

    Duties

    Supervision of staff includes, but not limited to monitoring of day-to-day activities of staff, creates schedules, manages PTO requests, provides guidance and feedback to staff on performance, mentoring, training, and cross-training of staff, addressing questions or issues raised by staff, encourage staff to provide recommendations for relevant process and systems enhancements, among others . Oversee workload distribution and prioritization to maintain efficiency and achieve departmental and/or enterprise goals. Foster a positive and collaborative team culture, promoting accountability and engagement.

     

    Interact with cross-functional teams to address and resolve issues that impact the provision of the department’s services.

     

    Communicate with senior management and attend meetings as necessary to address needs within the department and the organization.

     

    Develop project plans, prepare documents and reports as necessary. Presents project metrics and dashboard to management.

     

    Participate, recommend, and assist in the development, updating, and maintaining pharmacy-related policies and procedures (P&Ps) in compliance with all federal and state regulatory/contract requirements and desktop procedures for pharmacy workflows, including but not limited to claims rejection reviews, prior authorization evaluations, medication adherence outreach programs, and medication override processes. Implement pharmacy policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with legal and accreditation standards.

     

    Monitor and optimize pharmacy workflows to improve operational efficiency. Identify areas for process improvement and implement solutions to enhance quality. Triage and resolve issues related to prescription processing, rejected claims, and member inquiries.

     

    Assist in the development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives related to pharmacy services. Monitor performance metrics, such as medication adherence rates, within the team.

     

    Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to drive successful outcomes.

    Review rejected claims as necessary and may perform outreach for cases where action is required.

     

    Perform other duties as assigned.

    Education Required

    Associate's Degree in Related Field

     

    In lieu of degree, equivalent education and/or experience may be considered.

    Education Preferred

    Bachelor's Degree in Related Field

    Experience

    Required:

    At least 4 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician.

     

    At least 1 year of experience in leading a process, program, or staff.

    Equivalency:

    Completion of the L.A. Care Management Certificate Training Program may substitute for the supervisory/management experience requirement.

    Preferred:

    Previous experience in a managed care/health plan setting.

     

    Skills

    Required:

    Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.

     

    Must be customer service oriented.

     

    Must possess good verbal and written communication skills.

     

    Ability to motivate, train, and supervise staff.

     

    Ability to identify and resolve issues quickly and effectively.

     

    Ability to delegate tasks appropriately and provide guidance and support.

     

    Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

     

    Proficiency in pharmacy management systems.

     

    Knowledge of insurance processing and claim management.

     

    Excellent attention to details to ensure accuracy.

     

    Understanding and maintaining patient confidentiality.

     

    Strong organizational skills to manage workflow, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

    Preferred:

    Bilingual in one of L.A. Care Health Plan’s threshold languages is highly desirable. English, Spanish, Chinese, Armenian, Arabic, Farsi, Khmer, Korean, Russian, Tagalog, Vietnamese

     

    Licenses/Certifications Required

     

    Pharmacy Technician - Active, current and unrestricted California License
