Job Title: Plumbing Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a Plumbing Designer or Engineer to join a collaborative, multidisciplinary team. In this role, you will be responsible for selecting and designing plumbing systems for complex projects such as hospitals, labs, and other mission-critical facilities. You will produce full design documentation, support construction administration, and work closely with architects, engineers, and sustainability experts throughout each project. A high level of technical precision and attention to detail is expected at every stage. If you're passionate about designing impactful, sustainable buildings, this could be a great fit.
Responsibilities
+ Design complex plumbing systems with minimal oversight.
+ Evaluate system options and recommend the best fit for each project.
+ Plan layouts for major equipment rooms with constructability and maintenance in mind.
+ Develop system diagrams, control sequences, and points lists.
+ Apply energy efficiency principles and select appropriate equipment.
+ Produce detailed drawings, specifications, and technical write-ups.
+ Draft and revise project specifications and contribute to internal standards.
+ Coordinate with internal MEP teams and external partners.
+ Foster open communication and teamwork across disciplines.
+ Ensure all designs meet applicable codes and standards.
+ Review peer work and occasionally perform independent quality checks.
+ Conduct site visits and field observations, and write clear reports.
+ Respond to submittals and RFIs while anticipating downstream impacts.
+ Guide and support junior team members.
+ Share knowledge and help improve design processes.
+ Take initiative and manage parts of projects independently when needed.
Essential Skills
+ 8+ years of experience in plumbing engineering/design.
+ Project experience with healthcare, life sciences, and data centers.
+ Proficiency in Revit for designing plumbing systems.
+ Strong understanding of plumbing codes (UPC), NFPA standards, and design requirements for healthcare and lab environments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field, or 8-10+ years of relevant experience.
+ PE license or Certified Plumbing Designer (CPD) certification preferred, or willingness to obtain within six months.
+ Experience working on complex facilities such as hospitals, laboratories, or other mission-critical environments.
+ Skilled in Revit, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam.
+ Capable of managing projects and client relationships independently, with support available as needed.
Work Environment
This hybrid role is based in Atlanta, Georgia, with flexibility to work remotely. Occasional site visits in the Atlanta area will be required, and local travel is expected around 10–15% of the time for meetings and site visits. The team culture is highly collaborative, and the organization is employee-owned with an ESOP program. The office has about 10 employees, who occasionally visit on Mondays and Thursdays. The organization values professional development and offers flexibility with scheduling.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $105000.00 - $150000.00/yr.
