Description
The City of Norfolk's Department of Utilities is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Microcomputer Systems Analyst, Senior. This person provides technical and professional work for all Utilities divisions; providing microcomputer software and hardware support; interfaces with vendor representatives and department personnel to maintain effective functioning of software, hardware, and networks; assists with training staff in the use of computer technology; & works with the city’s IT Department to configure and troubleshoot computers.
Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
+ Diagnose and resolve computer problems by researching, evaluating, recommending, installing, repairing, and maintaining selected hardware and software; provide advanced technical support for city standard software and operating systems; and complete assigned work requests.
+ Provide advanced on-call support to Utilities divisions. This support includes providing resolutions over the telephone to problems, microcomputer hardware and software, network security issues, and other assigned support areas.
+ Provides advanced technical support to Utilities staff for microcomputer systems hardware and software; provides advanced technical support to other Utilities divisions with cross-department projects; research, tests and implements new hardware and software technologies; and meet with department managers/supervisors to provide technical coordination assistance.
+ Maintain Utilities microcomputer, iPad, and telephone hardware inventory; maintain surplus and disposed microcomputer equipment logs; and maintain spare parts inventory.
+ Create, document, and modify technology installation and troubleshooting procedures and provide assistance to Utilities divisions with writing instructions to department supervisors to implement installations, upgrades, and fixes.
+ Resolve problems with emergency operating systems, microcomputers and other system support issues.
Education/Experience
Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
Three years experience in computer hardware and software support.
Additional Information & Requirements
+ Valid Driver's License may be required depending on assignment.
+ CompTIA A+ Certification.
+ CompTIS Network+ Certification recommended.
Work Location: Utilities Combined Operations Center, 1316 Ballentine Blvd, Norfolk, Virginia
Work Hours: Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus.
This position is an Essential position which means you may be required to work extended, rotating, after hours, nights, weekends and/or holidays in response to emergencies or severe weather.
+ Regular full-time and permanent part-time employees may receive paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, employer paid pension plan, basic life insurance, voluntary participation in medical and dental, Section 457 deferred compensation, long-term disability, optional life insurance for self, spouse and children, medical and dependent care reimbursement plans, access to membership in credit union and employer provided parking.
+ Special project/grant employees are generally eligible for the same benefits of regular full-time employees; however, retirement, life insurance and participation in health plans vary depending upon funding and authorization.
+ Temporary/seasonal and part-time employees are generally only eligible for employer provided parking and access to membership in credit union.
+ Retirement
If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
+ The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply. The applicant’s school of enrollment must be an accredited institution.
