    The Position

    The Tax Planning Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing tax strategies to optimize the company's tax position and ensure compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations. This role involves collaborating with various departments, including finance, legal, and business operations – Research, Development, Manufacturing, Commercial and Business Development, as well as headquarters to provide tax planning support for business initiatives and transactions in the U.S and globally.

     

    Relationships

     

    Position reports to Director of Tax Strategy at Novo Nordisk Inc. (NNI). As part of NNI Finance, continual interaction with headquarters taxes as well as line of business personnel at local operations and global affiliates. Position will interact with external tax advisors, auditors and outside professionals as necessary. Position will prepare, supervise, and manage deliverables independently as well as leveraging members of shared service team, interns and outside consultants.

    Essential Functions

    TAX PLANNING:

    + Assist Director of U.S. Tax Strategy and support Director of Tax Operations as the point of contact for all planning matters in close alignment with the global tax strategy.

    + Develop and support tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities and ensure compliance with international, federal, state, and local tax laws. Model and implement US planning ideas, including global initiatives, and ensure proper understanding and integration by the US Tax Operations team into existing processes.

    + Keep the Director of U.S. Tax Strategy frequently informed of all relevant planning opportunities and relevant developments in tax policy for NNUS affiliates through monthly email reports or meetings.

    + Strategically plan completion of deliverables to leverage available resources and focus on value-added work. Provide high-quality deliverables ready for Senior Management review.

    BUSINESS INITIATIVES and STRATEGY:

    + Provide tax support for business initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, and other transactions.

    + Partner with Corporate Tax, NNUS Tax Operations, business, and commercial functions to proactively identify and implement efficient tax planning strategies, including developing and executing global and local tax initiatives to optimize the group effective tax rate and reduce cash taxes.

    + Coordinate tax planning strategies and forecasting/reporting processes around US Federal and State proposed and enacted tax legislation and guidance, including modeling US impacts of changes to business and US footprint as well as global tax authoritative guidance.

    + Advise and communicate with management on the status and outcomes of planning initiatives, opportunity areas, and relevant tax legislative impacts.

    + Research tax issues that arise in support of the business and provide recommendations to Corporate Tax and senior management in the form of email, memo, and PowerPoint.

    COORDINATION and REPORTING:

    + Build, maintain, and leverage internal stakeholder relationships to gain business understanding and provide expert quality deliverables in the form of tax planning proposals and advice. Secure an understanding of acquired assets and companies to integrate into the existing tax footprint and processes optimally.

    + Contribute to the design, integration, and implementation of technology and data management solutions to automate, streamline, standardize, and support data and process requirements for tax planning.

    + Collaborate with Tax, Finance, IT, and other internal and external stakeholders in defining and documenting processes, system, technical, and functional requirements to maximize process efficiency.

    + Ensure initiatives are fully transitioned to NNUS Tax Operations team and accurately and timely reported and disclosed on the tax return.

    + Maintain well-documented support for all planning initiatives implemented and support NNUS Tax Operations team on tax audits as a subject matter expert.

    Physical Requirements

    0-10% overnight travel required.

    Qualifications

    + A bachelor’s degree is required in a relevant manor, preferably Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or Finance. CPA license or advanced degree highly desired.

    + A minimum of 5 years corporate tax experience either in public accounting, private industry, or both.

    + Tax technical competency covering a broad range of complex U.S. Federal, State, and International tax matters.

    + Requires demonstrated ability to work independently, as a member or leader of a team using direct or indirect line authority.

    + Ability to build relationships and collaborate extensively with key business partners and stakeholders.

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SAP, OneSource or similar experience required.

    + Ability to organize, effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced matrix environment

     

    The base compensation range for this position is $116,810 to $216,100 Base compensation is determined based on a number of factors. This position is also eligible for a company bonus based on individual and company performance.

     

    Novo Nordisk offers long-term incentive compensation and or company vehicles depending on the position's level or other company factors.
