About Us:
The Lakin Childhood Development Center (LCDC), located in Glenwood, Iowa, provides high-quality, year-round early childhood and school-age programming for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years. We are dedicated to fostering a safe, nurturing, and enriching environment that supports children’s development across all domains.
Position Summary:
The Director is responsible for the overall management and leadership of the Lakin Childhood Development Center. This includes program administration, staff supervision, compliance with licensing standards, budget management, and fostering relationships with families and the local community. The Director will ensure that programming for infants through school-aged children meets developmental needs and adheres to the highest standards of early childhood education.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Provide day-to-day leadership of the center’s operations, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for all children.
+ Develop, implement, and evaluate age-appropriate curriculum for all age groups (infant, toddler, preschool, and school-age).
+ Ensure compliance with Iowa state licensing regulations and maintain high standards for health and safety.
+ Manage the center's budget, including tuition tracking, payroll, and purchasing of materials and supplies.
+ Hire, train, schedule, and supervise teaching and support staff.
+ Conduct regular staff evaluations and support ongoing professional development.
+ Maintain appropriate teacher-to-child ratios throughout the day.
+ Build positive relationships with children, families, staff, and the community.
+ Conduct enrollment meetings, family conferences, and tours for prospective families.
+ Serve as the point of contact for communication between the center and parents.
+ Oversee and manage the CACFP food program with purchases, billing, and submissions.
+ Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a closely related field.
+ Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in early childhood education, including at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
+ Knowledge of Iowa DHS child care licensing standards and best practices in early learning.
+ Proficient in staff management, budgeting, and organizational leadership.
+ CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
+ Ability to commit the time and energy to support a growing center’s operations.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience overseeing a center that serves infants through school-age children.

Terms of Employment: Twelve month position. Salary schedules shall be subject to annual review and modification by the Glenwood Board of Education or through the collective bargaining process, where one exists.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Classified Staff Evaluation.
