Truck Driver

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Safely operates a truck or van under 26,000lbs and up to 26ft long primarily to deliver or pick up merchandise from donation centers, Goodwill stores/facilities or businesses.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Safeguards company property, including donated goods. Immediately reports any incidents of theft or unauthorized possession of company property to immediate supervisor and/or Asset Prevention.
2. Maintains records such as vehicle logs, daily truck inspection, and load details according to all State and Federal laws and company procedures.
3. Provides basic supervision for assigned truck helper, if applicable.
4. Reports any mechanical problems encountered with vehicles.
5. Reports delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations to immediate supervisor.
6. Loads and unloads trucks, vehicles, containers and trailers. Loads and unloads vehicles using available equipment such as a pallet jack, hand truck, or forklift. Forklift training and certification will be provided by Goodwill.
7. Provides 30-minute notice to site staff when in route to a destination.
8. Communicates with the manager on duty when arriving and leaving a site, completing documentation as required.
9. Maintains appropriate communication with Warehouse Leads and Transportation Manager.
10. Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections on their assigned vehicle daily. Inspecting truck equipment and supplies (such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water). Reports any concerns to transportation or warehouse management team member immediately.
11. Uses company provided phone and headset to communicate Goodwill business during operating hours.
12. Pads, stacks, and secures items in position on the truck to prevent damage during transit.
13. Use good interpersonal skills such as courtesy, respect, sensitivity, politeness and thoughtfulness when interacting with Goodwill staff and public.
14. Abides by all Goodwill's established policies and procedures.
15. Adhere to all safety procedures and wear all safety equipment that is required for the specific task.
16. Accomplishes retail and organization mission by completing related assignments as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
* High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) preferred with a minimum 6-12 month commercial truck driving experience or any job-related experience that will provide the necessary knowledge, skill, and abilities to be able to perform the essential functions of the position.
* Valid current Driver’s License (Class C), with driving record acceptable to Goodwill’s insurance company’s standards.
* Able to pass the DOT Drug Screen and DOT Physical.
* Must be able to read operating and safety instructions.
* Forklift Certification (Equipment Training and certification are provided).
* Ability to use effectively a dolly, pallet jack and lift gate.
* Must have a flexible schedule (can work evenings and weekends when required).
