POSITION TITLE: Automation Controls Engineer III or Sr.
SHIFT HOURS: 8:00am to 5:00pm
SALARY RANGE: $120,000 to $139,000
JOB SUMMARY: The Automation Controls Engineer is responsible for leading the design, debug, and installation of electro & pneumatic aspects of automated systems for production and new product development activities. The Automation Controls Engineer is also responsible for researching, recommending, and implementing automated means to collect critical assembly and functional data to support production analytics, supporting development of specifications and validation of equipment. Support/lead continuous improvement activities for existing manufacturing lines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
+ Draft electrical and pneumatic controls drawings for fabrication of equipment.
+ Participate in development of new test systems for New Product Development.
+ Participate in design/debug of data collection for new & existing equipment (RFID/Barcode traceability).
+ Create process flow, logic, and software diagrams.
+ Author work instructions, equipment operating procedures, machine specifications etc.
+ Assist in document control for LSI and integrator drawing packages for automated equipment.
+ Support Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) processes and root cause investigations.
+ Debug existing production equipment.
Automation Controls Engineer III
+ Write and debug PLC software to control electrical, pneumatic, robotic, and vision hardware.
+ Create and debug human/machine interface (HMI) software.
+ Gather & provide design feedback and controls insights in design reviews.
+ Provide oversight and assistance in wiring, plumbing and I/O check of systems.
+ Work with 3rd party integrators for machine design & development.
Senior Automation Controls Engineer
+ All essential functions listed above.
+ Establish controls and software standards for LSI.
+ Provide functional expertise, leadership, and mentorship to controls & technician team members.
+ Understand and communicate regulatory implications related to the Automation functions.
+ Advanced knowledge of and apply engineering principles, analytical techniques, and judgement to independently resolve major technical issues.
+ Lead Projects from initiation to completion.
+ Represent Engineering during internal & external audits.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
+ BS Engineering or technical discipline required.
+ Knowledge of medical device technologies preferred.
+ Knowledge of clean room practices preferred.
Automation Controls Engineer III
+ 5+ years of relevant work experience.
+ 3+ relevant engineering experience in medical device or other regulated industry.
+ Experience developing applications for high and low volume manufacturing equipment.
Senior Controls Engineer
+ 8+ years of relevant work experience.
+ 5+ years of relevant engineering experience in medical device or other regulated industry.
+ Led application development for high & low volume manufacturing equipment development.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
+ All above-listed Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
+ Experience with in 2D AutoCAD design for electrical or pneumatic diagrams.
+ Familiar with Excel database creation for production software integration.
+ Understanding of production statistics for manufacturing monitoring.
+ Understand lean manufacturing principles.
+ Effective verbal & written communication skills.
Automation Controls Engineer III
+ All above-listed Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
+ Proficient in PLC Programming and HMI software (Allen Bradley/Rockwell preferred).
+ Experience in Level 1 firmware programming (ex. motor controllers, drivers, etc.)
+ Experience in leading controls projects (Vision Inspection, Robotics, Barcode Scanning, etc.)
+ Experience in vision inspection systems (Cognex, Keyence, etc.).
+ Proficient in troubleshooting, problem solving and writing technical documentation/reports.
+ Led problem solving events.
+ Experience using Process Excellence tools – ex. FMEA, Cause & Effect, DOEs, etc.
+ Demonstrated use of Project Management Skills.
+ Experienced leading a cross-functional team.
Senior Automation Controls Engineer
+ All above-listed Knowledge, Skills & Abilities at a Proficient Level.
+ Proficient in Project Management Skills
+ Excellent verbal & written communication skills, including presenting to Leadership.
+ Demonstrated leadership capability across organization.
