    Job Description

    What We’re Seeking:

    The Iowa Department of Public Defense is looking to fill a Painter Iposition to assist the state in painting services at Camp Dodge Joint Maneuver Training Center, Johnston, IA. This position will support the paint section in the day-to-day routine as dictated by scheduled requests or as established by the Painter II through routine inspection of deteriorating painted surfaces, or by last minute requests that can be performed to support base users.

Providing support so they are able to fulfill their missions in Iowa’s communities or their work for the State during emergencies or times of need.     What You’ll Do:

    + Establish a painting work schedule.

    + Document and track project time and material detail in MAPCON

    + Review blueprints; provide estimates of material needed for scope of work.

    + Check inventories/maintain supply levels/submit purchase order requests.

    + Prepare and paint wood, metal, concrete, drywall and other surfaces using appropriate means.

    + Repair and fill holes, cracks, seams, joints to preserve appearance and prevent weather infiltration.

    + Maintain care of all tools, equipment and material.

    + Prepare and stain/finish wood surfaces using best application technique

    + Ensure work is performed to standards/specifications using accepted safety procedures.

    + Lead the work of others.

    + Monitor progress/provide feedback

    + Communicate effectively with co-workers, tradespersons, and management.

    + Performs an annual inspection of Training Center buildings

    + Perform inspections and maintenance equipment, tools, and accessories.

    + Perform operator's checks and services on vehicles assigned to paint section.

    Work hours:

    7:00 A.M. - 3:30 P.M. Monday- Friday, hours may vary with work assignments/and some weekend assignments to provide additional base support.

     

    Note: This job requires applicants to have a state issued Driver’s License.

    Minimum Qualification Requirements

     

    The equivalent of two years of full-time experience in skilled painting work;

    OR

    an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting the completion of one term of study in a painter's course at a recognized trade school for each six months of the required experience;

    OR

    the successful completion of two years of an approved painter's apprenticeship program;

    OR

    employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to one year as a Trades Helper which involved painting duties.

    Additional Qualification Requirements

     

    Designated positions in this job class require applicants to obtain the required Commercial Drivers License and endorsements within a period of time as determined by the appointing authority at the time of hire.
