POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for researching various databases to ensure information received or disseminated is accurate and complies with state and federal requirements. This position is also responsible for acting as a liaison with local, state, and federal agencies to verify and obtain accurate information to assist in a firearm transaction decision and determining eligibility of an entry into the Mental Competency (MECOM) database. This position provides training to external customers and provides quality assurance to the data entered into MECOM. This position must meet and maintain NCIC/FCIC (National Crime Information Center/Federal Crime Information Center) certification as required and is responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of data housed within the department databases.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties include:
+ Maintaining regular contact with local, state, and non-criminal justice agencies for the purpose of gathering required documentation for entry into the MECOM database ;
+ Conducting research for relevant information from multiple databases and resources;
+ Ensuring timely entry of mental health related orders received from Florida Clerks of Court into the MECOM database;
+ Analyzing multiple source documents to form a recommendation and decision for mental health related cases;
+ Providing documentation to internal customers to support updates to MECOM and the FBI’s NICS index;
+ Resolving difficult, unusual, or questionable issues in the review and processing of criminal justice information;
+ Submitting accurate forms and records in accordance with established section procedures;
+ Completing assigned special projects according to instructions; and
+ Caring for the custody and control of all property assigned. If property is lost or damaged through the member’s negligence or misuse, then the member may be subject to disciplinary action or be required to reimburse FDLE for the loss or damage.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
+ Knowledge of state and federal firearm disqualifiers;
+ Knowledge of the criminal justice system;
+ Knowledge of the methods of data collection, evaluation, and analysis;
+ Ability to operate computers and other office equipment;
+ Ability to work independently by planning, organizing, and coordinating work assignments;
+ Ability to communicate effectively;
+ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with others;
+ Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures;
+ Ability to read and interpret law enforcement data; and
+ Ability to deal with the public in a tactful, courteous and effective manner.

BASE SALARY:
+ $19.81/hour

Starting hourly salary will be the minimum of the class pay range, unless otherwise dictated by FDLE’s pay policy. FDLE is a State of Florida Employer and offers a comprehensive OPS benefits package (ONLY available to OPS members who will be working 30 or more hours a week) , including:

BACKGROUND:
FDLE requires an extensive background process of all recommended applicants. This information will be utilized to make the final hiring decision.

Preference will be given to current FDLE members who have satisfactorily completed at least six months of the probationary period for their current position.
