    Description of Job

    Summary of Position:

    The Director of Nursing leads, manages, plans, organizes, oversees and directs the day-to-day operations of the McCandless Veterans Community Living Center in accordance with current federal, state, and local policies, laws and regulations that govern the facility in collaboration with the Nursing Home Administrator and the Division team. The Director of Nursing is responsible for and accountable for data, practices, polices and procedures reviewed during annual surveys as well as the results addressing deficiencies through plans of correction. The Director of Nursing ensures the clinical staff provides the highest level of quality care to residents. The individual in this position assumes responsibility and accountability for clinical and quality outcomes of the facility, overseeing all clinical practice. The Director of Nursing maintains an understanding of current standards of care and leads the team in developing evidence-based initiatives and quality improvement projects to improve resident care and outcomes. The Director of Nursing reports directly to the Nursing Home Administrator.

    Duties of the position:

    Leadership and Administrative:

    + Leads, manages, oversees, organizes, plans and directs the day-to-day activities, including compliance with federal, state and local laws, regulations, policies and guidelines; ensuring policies and procedures are followed for the effective operation of the facility; and assuming the responsibility for ensuring quality services are being provided by the nursing staff to the residents we serve. Serve as a resource and role model for nursing staff. Responsible for fostering and maintaining positive working relationships with residents and their families, between nursing staff members and between nursing staff and other facility employees. Act as a representative of the facility. Maintains administrative authority, responsibility and accountability for the Nursing Department in collaboration with the Nursing Home Administrator (NHA). Full-Time exempt position and on call 24/7 in response of needs for residents, staff and families, i.e., reporting of occurrences, Sentinel events, adjusting scheduling needs and providing guidance to staff in following the facility policies and standards of care.

    Personnel Management and Staff Authority:

    + Responsible for and accountable for all aspects of the employee/employer relationship, including recruitment, selection, performance management, progressive discipline, and retention.

    Compliance with Quality Measures, Standards and Division Clinical Practices:

    + Responsible for and accountable for all aspects of complying with state and federal quality measures imposed by the long-term care regulations and state and federal standard clinical practices in addition to division processes to remain survey-ready. Ensure policies, practices, and procedures are implemented to support quality measure improvement, professional standards of clinical practices and using data to improve quality measures, ensure the infection control/antibiotic stewardship program is implemented, address trends, and/or deficiencies.

     

    Policy, Procedure, and Compliance Oversight

    Floor/Charge Nurse:

    + Act as a Charge/Floor Nurse and assume all the duties of that role, including being on the on-call rotation, the treatment and care of a neighborhood unit and directing employees. Responsibility includes addressing attendance and performance/behavior issues and reporting the incident to their designated supervisor.

    Special Qualifications:

    + Current, valid licensure as a Registered Nurse from the Colorado Board of Nursing or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC)

    + Current Valid and Unrestricted US Driver's License

    + Must possess a current CPR certification

    AND

    + Master's Degree in Nursing

    Substitutions:

    + Additional appropriate education will subsitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

    + Additional appropriate experience will substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.

    Conditions of Employment

    + TB test required.

    + Requires annual influenza and other vaccines as required by the State of Colorado

    + Current, Valid US Driver’s License

    + Primarily 8-5 M-F with possible evenings, nights, weekends, or holidays based on business need.

    + Travel to meetings on-site assessments and/or trainings

    + CDHS employees (all Direct contact with vulnerable persons):

     

    CBI name check and fingerprint check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, Reference Checks, Professional License verification (licensure requirements), Drug Screen, PREA (Division of Youth Services), Trails check (direct contact with children), CAPS (direct contact with adults – Mental Health Institutes, Regional Centers, Veterans Community Living Centers)

     

    + Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position. Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.
