    Position Summary

    HIGHLIGHTS

    The SUNY Geneseo Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation, a part of the Division of Student and Campus Life, seeks qualified candidates for the position of Head Coach for Women’s Softball.

     

    This full-time, 10-month, fully-benefited position will coordinate and oversee all aspects of the softball program and will be assigned a secondary duty or duties based on the skill set of the selected candidate and the needs of the department (eg: game management, assist the strength and conditioning coach, assist the intramural and recreation director).

    In this role, you will be responsible for administering all aspects of the program with specific duties including but not limited to:

    + recruitment and retention of qualified student-athletes;

    + individual skill development of student-athletes;

    + scheduling;

    + budget preparation and management;

    + participation in department fundraising, community service, and alumni engagement efforts;

    + monitoring academic performance;

    + adherence to all NCAA , Empire 8, and SUNY Geneseo rules and regulations

    Required Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    + Bachelor’s degree

    + Prior coaching experience at the collegiate level

    + Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion

    + Ability to establish and maintain positive learning environments for students and collaborative relationships with colleagues

    Preferred Qualifications

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    + Master’s degree

    + Demonstrated success & experience as an assistant or head coach at the collegiate level

    + Demonstrated ability to recruit and retain student-athletes who are committed to academic and athletic excellence;

    + Experience with fundraising and/or alumni relations

    Direct the softball program by coordinating and completing the following:

    + coaching

    + practice sessions

    + contest preparation

    + contest management

    + administrative duties

    Function 2: Student-Athlete Recruitment, Retention, and Support

     

    + Recruit and retain student-athletes that can meet Geneseo’s academic admissions standards and enhance the competitiveness of the program.

    + Work with the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics academic coordinator to support the academic success of student-athletes and to monitor their academic performance.

    + Support department and College initiatives to develop the whole student.

    Function 3: Budget Management/Fundraising

     

    + Submit and manage annual budget within deadline established by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation.

    + Follow state, Geneseo Foundation and department purchasing regulations by submitting all purchases to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation for prior approval.

    + Pursue fundraising opportunities to supplement departmental budget as necessary.

    Function 4: Administrative Duties

     

    + Supervise all direct reports and make recommendations for employment, including hiring and reappointing staff and student workers.

    + Complete other administrative duties within deadlines established by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation including:

    + pre and post-trip meal, hotel and transportation arrangements

    + receipting for both team and recruitment travel

    + monthly assessment data and end of the year report
