Job Description

This position collaborates with a team of experienced engineers at EGLE to resolve complex issues. The surface water engineer is involved with performing sanitary surveys, surveillance visits, and reviewing plans, specifications, and permit applications for noncommunity water supplies which have treatment plants subject to the Surface Water Treatment Rules. The noncommunity surface water treatment engineer also has responsibility for reviewing monthly operation reports and assisting water supplies subject to the Surface Water Treatment Rules.

Environmental Engineer 9-P11:

The surface water engineer performs engineering review and surveillance of public water supplies as defined by the Michigan Safe Drinking Water Act (Act 399, PA 1976, as amended) for surface water systems. The activities consist of, or are related to, evaluation, construction, and surveillance and monitoring of surface water treatment for these public water supplies. The surface water engineer also performs the first-line engineering review of construction permit applications and supporting documentation.

This position functions as the senior engineer for the engineering review and issuance of construction permits for all surface water treatment plants as assigned. This position will also be responsible for reviewing technical documents and analyzing technical data related to surface water systems. Possession of a registered professional engineer license is required to be eligible for the 12 level.

The work location of this position will be either the Lansing, Bay City, Cadillac, Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Jackson, Warren, Marquette District Office or Gaylord Field Office, based on the selected candidate. However, the selected candidatemaybe eligible for a hybrid work schedule (combination of remote and in-person)ora fully remote work schedule (with occasional travel to their official work location). Employees approved for schedules that include remote work must complete that work within Michigan.Relocation expenses are not reimbursed. When working remote, employees must use a designated workspace that is safe and professionally appropriate, allows for privacy, minimizes distractions, and includes secure internet access. Details regarding work location and schedule options for this position may be discussed during the interview process.

Required Education and Experience

Education

Possession of a bachelor's degree in Civil, Sanitary, Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, Geological, or Environmental Engineering.

Experience

One year of professional environmental engineering experience in the protection and improvement of land and water resources, occupational health, or air quality equivalent to an Environmental Engineer 9.

Environmental Engineer P11

Two years of professional environmental engineering experience in the protection and improvement of land and water resources, occupational health, or air quality equivalent to an Environmental Engineer, including one year equivalent to Environmental Engineer 10.

Environmental Engineer Licensed 12

Three years of professional environmental engineering experience in the protection and improvement of land and water resources, occupational health, or air quality equivalent to an Environmental Engineer, including one year equivalent to an Environmental Engineer P11.
