Broad Function
Assistant Director of Student Life reports to the Director of Student and Residential Life and is responsible for coordinating student engagement; to enhance the growth and development of all students by providing social, cultural, recreational, and educational opportunities for all to engage with the campus and the community. Assures an office environment that is inclusive, open, professional, welcoming, and available to students, faculty and staff. Supports the overall growth of SUNY Adirondack as an engaging and inclusive campus for all students through programming, advocacy and support.
Major Responsibilities
+ Responsible for creating and overseeing a comprehensive student life programs, events, activities and leadership development opportunities, to enhance the overall student experience which fosters a vibrant campus community.
+ Supports intentional programming that coincides with changing and diverse needs of community college students including adult learners, residential and commuter students, Pell-eligible students, and first generation students, among others.
+ Coordinates Student Center utilization and programming. Develops and maintains an appropriate student environment within the Student Center, Cloister Community Conference Room and Student Club and Organization Room.
+ Serve as primary Advisor to the College Activity Board (CAB), providing input and information in its selection of programs and events for the campus and college community, and oversee CAB budget and student leadership development.
+ Responsible for hiring Student Assistants and Work Study Students. Train, schedule, and evaluate part-time student staff.
+ May serve as Student Club and Organization advisor.
+ Coordinates efforts that ensure the well-being of students with regards to health, safety, morale, discipline, interpersonal relationships within the group, and academic progress. Oversees the Intramural Sports Programs.
+ Manages the Student Life Office and ensures a welcoming, accessible office open to students, faculty and staff. Developing processes and procedures for efficient office operations.
+ Oversees the campus ID card system working with appropriate vendors and campus stakeholders to ensure adherence to ID policy as well as room access programming.
+ Manages the events management and club expenditures/budget software (currently PackLife - Campus Labs)
+ Administer ticket sales for student events and programs, including utilization of the Square POS system.
+ Coordinates and disseminates publications related to student clubs, student organizations, community building initiatives, and student affairs, to students, staff and the community. Assists in preparing and editing student flyers, posters, literature and other materials prepared by student groups for on and off-campus distribution. Implements and oversees processes and policy for posting/distributing of materials on campus as requested.
+ Oversee promotion of all campus events (“This Week” student portal, website, social media etc.)., Pack Life.
+ Maintains and regularly publishes an up to date calendar of student activities and events that is made readily available to all students and campus stakeholders.
+ Maintains accurate records of all Student Life, College Activity Board and Club activities -including event proposals, budgets, contacts, contracts, media/publicity, and evaluations.
+ Coordinates travel arrangements for student related travel in accordance with College policies and procedures.
+ Coordinate, in conjunction with student leaders and the Office of Student & Residential Life, Student Success and Student Affairs offices Accepted Student Day, New Student Orientation, Residential Extended Orientation, Welcome Week, Semi Formal, Commencement and other SUNY ADK Campus traditions.
+ Chair workgroups that support annual large-scale events geared toward major campus celebrations and themes.
+ Direct and implement Clubs and Organization training programs and materials in compliance with all federal, state and campus regulations.
+ Coordinate community service programs for students and the campus community.
+ Assist in development of sustained holistic training and programs focused on student leadership development; diversity, equity, and inclusion; student and faculty engagement; among other topics.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
Demonstrated competency in planning and delivering programming and services that meet the changing and diverse needs of community college students. Excellent interpersonal communication skills. Willingness and desire to work respectfully with people of diverse backgrounds. Experience with creating and managing budgets. Ability to maintain strong organization in event planning, administration and assessment. Demonstrated ability to create and foster positive, transparent and open relationships with students, faculty and staff.
Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
Years of Experience
1-3 years’ experience in Higher Education student services, retention efforts or programming.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Office environment. Occasionally lifting 10 – 25 lbs. Evening and weekend work is required.

Salary Range
$59,887 - $67,374 annually
The selected candidate’s salary will be determined based on factors that include the available budget, internal equity, and the final candidate’s qualifications, experience, education and other job-related credentials. This hiring range is provided as SUNY Adirondack’s good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
