Responsibilities:
GENERAL PURPOSE
Responsible for ensuring adequate anesthesiology coverage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at Strong Memorial, Highland, and F.F. Thompson Hospitals, various regional hospitals, and multiple off-site locations using a different set of rules and processes for each hospital location.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Works closely with Chief Clinical Coordinator and Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs in managing the complex scheduling of Anesthesiology Faculty and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists making sure that there is relative equality of clinical effort among staff and sufficient operating room coverage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
+ Maintains and develops the monthly and yearly scheduling of anesthesiology staff (MD's and CRNA's) utilizing a computerized scheduling system.
+ Coordinates staffing efforts with the Residency Program Director.
+ Prepares the schedule, providing adequate coverage each day for all anesthesiology subspecialties at all anesthetizing sites while accounting for meetings, vacations, non-clinical work, holidays and special needs.
+ Ensures that anesthesiologists with subspecialty training are scheduled to cover the subspecialty cases and provide call coverage for those cases.
+ Gathers, analyzes, and interprets data on a daily basis, prepares reports and makes recommendations, which may have policy implications.
+ Collects information, often developing spreadsheets with complex mathematical equations and provides Department Leadership with data for assessing clinical staffing needs.
+ Track and report on all clinical and non-clinical time utilized by Anesthesiology Faculty and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists.
+ Provides proactive communication and outreach to faculty and CRNAs; offering guidance with staff planning and resolution to scheduling issues.
+ Responds to correspondence and other inquiries involving the interpretation of university and departmental policy, regulations, and procedures.
+ Administers annual call auction ensuring that all members of the academic faculty have an opportunity to buy or sell call at a market value as determined by supply and demand.
+ Works with vendor and IT Department in implementing new scheduling system and scheduling system updates.
+ Engage in weekly meetings with vendor and IT Department to ensure the complexities of the schedule are translated into the new scheduling system.
+ Assist in the development of reporting tools within the new scheduling system. Tests the system and facilitates training for those who use the system.

Knowledge & Experience
+ Bachelor's degree and 1 year of experience in administrative capacity required
+ Or equivalent combination of education and experience
