Job Summary

One of the largest botanical gardens in the Intermountain West, the Garden is part of a state arboretum that encompasses the University of Utah campus and cultivates an essential urban forestland of about 2,000 trees in 456 different taxa. It’s also renowned for its collections of native and ethnobotanical plants, roses, a variety of perennials, ornamental grasses, and more than 590,000 springtime blooming bulbs. From classes to seasonal events, the Garden offers one-of-a-kind, immersive experiences that encourage participants to deepen their understanding of the natural world, whether through the study of plant science or by experiencing the pleasure and well-being that come from time spent with plants.
Position Overview
Are you a nature-loving communicator skilled at coordinating projects and contributing creative ideas?
Red Butte Garden and Arboretum’s small but mighty marketing and communications team seeks an experienced professional to help us grow the Garden’s audience and enhance our reputation. We’re looking for someone to help coordinate the development and execution of marketing materials and projects, working closely with and reporting to the director of marketing and PR. The ideal candidate has excellent organizational skills, proven ability to collaborate across departments, experience in project management, and knowledge of marketing trends.

Responsibilities
Duties may include but are not limited to:
+ Create and track project timelines, including workflows, deadlines, and deliverables for all marketing campaigns, promotions, and content.
+ Foster strong collaboration with other departments to meet shared objectives and improve processes.
+ Utilize project management software like Microsoft Planner to track progress, assign tasks, and ensure accountability.
+ Ensure proper execution of signage, promotional materials, and event assets, including driving to pick up or deliver signage when necessary.
+ Maintain photo library, organizing and selecting images, and fulfilling image requests internally and externally.
+ Help coordinate photo and video shoots, including scheduling photographers and videographers, arranging locations, and collaborating on shot lists.
+ Provide writing and editing support for external content and communications, which may include web, social, email, and member magazine content; advertising copy; press releases and monthly media updates; and other marketing collateral as needed.
+ Support day-to-day earned media efforts as needed: create, update, and deliver digital press kits; respond to incoming media requests; maintain up to-date media lists; and track press mentions.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree English, Journalism, Communications, or related field plus 3 years of related experience, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); excellent writing and verbal communication skills; familiarity with a variety of computer software; project management and strong interpersonal skills; ability to work both individually and in a team setting.
Some areas may require additional experience with specific computer systems and may require skills in interviewing, ad copy writing, editing, photography, web writing, graphic design, audio & video production, and oral presentation.
Master’s degree in a related field may be preferred.

Preferences
+ Bachelor’s (or equivalency) and at least 2 years of directly related full-time work experience in a nonprofit, environmental, or cultural setting.
+ Excellent writing and verbal communications skills.
+ Proficient in Microsoft Planner and/or other project management software
+ Proficient with Constant Contact or other email marketing platform.
