    Energy Supply Engineer or Analyst

     

    Work Location : Butte, Helena, or Bozeman, MT preferred (other major service locations in Montana and South Dakota may be considered)

     

    Pay range : Engineer (must have engineering degree): $72,200 to $135,200 per year

     

    Analyst: $54,000 to $121,800 per year

     

    Employment Status: Regular Full-time

    About this position:

    The Energy Supply Engineer/Analyst will perform multiple functions associated with the electricity and natural gas retail load serving obligations of NorthWestern Energy. Regular duties will include economic and technical analysis, technical writing, and recurring tasks in association with long-term supply planning, regulatory filings and proceedings, resource selection and acquisition, electricity resource portfolio management, and electricity supply contracts. Analysis of current and future electricity supply resources, retail load, and the electric and gas resource portfolios will be central to the analyst position. Prepare and file written testimony, and appear as an expert witness in regulatory proceedings.

    About this job:

    + Must have or develop a working knowledge of NorthWestern Energy supply operations

    + Demonstrate ability to communicate and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders

    + Author work products in support of regulatory filings including the application of utility tariffs

    + Must be knowledgeable of electricity generation, energy production calculations, and associated metrics

    + Ability and aptitude to plan work, anticipate issues, and develop solutions to meet schedules is essential

    + Must be flexible and adaptable to changing of assignments and priorities of the Energy Supply Group

    + Incorporate operational, legal, regulatory, and environmental factors in completion of assignments

    + Travel to meetings and conferences (Up to 10% travel per year)

    + Scan, print, file, and retrieve paper work

    Engineering Position will also include the following duties:

    + Work on complex technical specifications, energy forecasting, energy modeling, contracts, and compliance requirements.

    + Combines engineering knowledge with communication skills to engage internal stakeholders, external stakeholders and the general public.

    + Works on complex opportunities to evaluate and/or integrate new energy supply resources.

    + A bachelor's degree in business administration, economics, finance, marketing, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

    + A master's degree in business administration, analytics, economics or related field is a plus

    + Demonstrate and maintain a good safety record

    + Possess strong computer, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills

    + Experience in business development or electric utility preferred

    + Knowledge of FERC and PURPA requirements

    + Knowledge in project management principles and fundamentals desired

    + Must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple conflicting tasks and demands

    + Relevant experience may include business strategy, market research, financial analysis, statistics, and communication.

    + Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record

    + Bachelor's degree in Engineering required

    + E or ability to obtain P.E. a plus

    + Demonstrate and maintain a good safety record

    + Possess strong computer, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills

    + Experience in electric distribution or transmission engineering, modeling and construction preferred

    + Knowledge of FERC and NERC

    + Knowledge in Project Management principles and fundamentals desired

    + Must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple conflicting tasks and demands

    + Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record
