Saint-Gobain Research North America is seeking an experienced R&D Manager to join their Abrasives team in Northborough, MA.
The new R&D Manager will be responsible for Grinding Technology organization worldwide, supporting various R&D activities. Incumbent will be responsible for test method development and methodology, improving testing efficiency, developing and maintaining a portfolio of new application projects in coordination with all the worldwide grinding technology centers, their managers, engineers and technicians. Additionally, responsible for customer interfacing, blueprinting and university level programs to enhance the visibility and talent attraction for the worldwide organization.
Essential Functions
+ Build close relationships with key internal and external partners, as well as customers on technical development objectives on a worldwide basis (6 locations today); develop, nurture and ensure implementation of the technology strategy to support and grow the SOA business, involving the development of specially simulation and testing.
+ Develop and nurture talent worldwide:
+ Develop talent pipeline.
+ Lead a research and development organization of more than 15 people (direct) and ~ 40 people (indirectly).
+ Ensure the technical competence of the R&D department; recruit, assess and grow talent capability, nurture market savvy scientists/engineers.
+ Foster a team culture within the internal R&D groups.
+ Create and coordinate a worldwide community to develop grinding technology, testing methodology and be an active player in all projects in the center as well as establishing a road map of innovation in grinding technology and monitoring tools.

+ Demonstrated success in influencing organizational strategy and effecting change across organizational boundaries.
+ Demonstrated strong business acumen with an understanding of the financial implications of new technology development processes.
+ Understand the use of technology as a competitive differentiator, specifically driving the creative process and ideation funnel.
+ Knowledge of the processes used to create, document and pursue formalized intellectual property on a worldwide basis.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree + 18 years of experience or master’s Degree with + 13 years of experience or PhD + 9 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Engineering or other related fields.
+ Expertise in grinding technology, test methods, testing, machines, sensors, customer process monitoring required.
+ Core technologies: Grinding process interactions, various work materials, operating parameters and factors, machine tools and systems, theory of machining and grinding, mechanics, dynamics, integration of sensors, Data analysis (and linkage to grinding process interactions) and a systems approach in problem solving.
+ Trained in behavior-based safety and advocate for safe and responsible laboratory practices.
+ Adhere to the values and Principles of Conduct and Action of Saint-Gobain.
+ Understand and apply TRUST, EMPOWERMENT AND COLLABORATION.
+ 10-15+ years of progressive growth in R&D management responsibilities preferred.
