Cloud Operations Engineer
Job Description:
Are you interested in working at a fast-growing Silicon Valley company voted Best Place to Work ten years in a row and recognized as one of the Best Workplaces for Diversity by FORTUNE?
Every business on the face of Earth must, in some way, do bookkeeping, accounting, and financial planning to operate. At the outset, these functions may seem like mundane facts-of-life in the process of running a business; however, the skill with which a company does them can have a profound impact on their business.
Position Summary
We are seeking a proactive and technically strong Cloud Operations Engineer to lead the design, development, and delivery of our infrastructure as software. This role is deeply involved in how infrastructure is written, versioned, validated, deployed, and supported across all environments - treating it as a first-class product alongside application code.
You will play a critical role in shaping our infrastructure delivery model, with end-to-end accountability for release processes, automation pipelines, deployment stability, and production readiness. As a core contributor to our infrastructure platform, you will partner closely with developers, site reliability engineers, release managers, and platform tooling teams to ensure that all infrastructure changes are well-controlled, auditable, and fast-moving.
This role supports a wide range of hosted products and services deployed across AWS and Azure, each with varying cadences and maturity. You will help drive consistency, quality, and visibility across all of them.
You will not only contribute to infrastructure as software, but also take responsibility for the environments themselves - ensuring that infrastructure is deployed, maintained, and monitored with high standards for readiness, availability, and operational stability.
Required Skills and Experience
-5+ years in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, Release Engineering, or infrastructure delivery roles in cloud-native environments.
-Strong hands-on experience with AWS and Azure, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform and Ansible
-Proficient in scripting and automation using Python, Bash, and PowerShell.
-Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure delivery through version control, CI/CD, and release automation tools like GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps.
-Proven experience supporting or leading releases for infrastructure and applications with different lifecycles and delivery models.
-Solid Linux systems experience (RedHat or Debian), and familiarity with web stacks like Apache, HAProxy, or NGINX.
-Experience owning or supporting build processes for PHP-based systems using Make and Maven.
-Demonstrated understanding of change control, release coordination, and rollback strategies in production environments.
-Ability to work across engineering, operations, and security functions to ensure well-governed and resilient infrastructure delivery.
Preferred Qualifications
-Experience implementing GitOps workflows, policy-based deployments, or automated infrastructure testing frameworks.
-Familiarity with containerized infrastructure and orchestration using Kubernetes.
-Strong knowledge of operational metrics (e.g., MTTR, CFR, deployment lead time) and how they are used to drive continuous improvement.
-Experience with observability platforms like Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK.
-Strong communicator with the ability to translate technical processes into cross-functional visibility and team alignment.
-Passion for automation, operational quality, and building self-service tooling that empowers engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities:
-Design, build, and own CI/CD pipelines that support safe, repeatable, and traceable delivery of infrastructure changes across environments.
-Lead the development and maintenance of Infrastructure-as-Software (IaS) using Terraform, Ansible, and Python—emphasizing modularity, reusability, and source control.
-Plan and execute infrastructure releases in close coordination with engineering, QA, platform, and release teams. Define and enforce release readiness standards and rollback practices.
-Own and support build systems for PHP applications, including Make and Maven workflows integrated with infrastructure deployment flows.
-Manage and maintain cloud infrastructure environments across AWS and Azure, including provisioning, configuration, patching, and lifecycle maintenance of core components and services.
-Monitor and validate the health of infrastructure and release processes, ensuring failures are quickly detected, root causes addressed, and systems restored with minimal impact.
-Implement and track key delivery metrics such as deployment frequency, change failure rate, lead time for changes, and MTTR to guide and improve delivery practices.
-Produce clear, actionable dashboards and reports that provide stakeholders with real-time and historical insights into infrastructure activity, stability, and delivery health.
-Drive ongoing improvements in infrastructure delivery velocity, release transparency, and system reliability.
-Champion secure and auditable infrastructure practices, including documentation, change tracking, and compliance alignment.
-Support regular maintenance windows and coordinate urgent deployments when required—ensuring operational readiness is upheld.
-Model and enforce best practices around version-controlled infrastructure, GitOps workflows, and automated testing of infrastructure code.
