As an Upstream Bioprocess Engineer, you’ll play a vital role in supporting the day-to-day operations of our small-scale and pilot laboratories. Responsibilities include:
+ Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment used in small- and pilot-scale upstream processing, including balances, pH meters, dissolved oxygen probes, and bioreactors.
+ Set up, assemble, sterilize, and disassemble bioreactors (single-use and stainless steel) and associated hardware for perfusion and fed-batch cell culture runs.
+ Prepare and autoclave media, buffers, and reagents according to sterile technique and established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
+ Inoculate, monitor, and sample shake flasks and bioreactors at various process stages
+ Execute cell culture studies in support of process development, scale-up, or tech transfer activities under the direction of senior scientists or engineers.
+ Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELN) by data integrity and GMP/GxP principles (if applicable).
+ Draft, update protocol and process overview documents. Review and finalize lab data documentation
+ Support lab inventory management, equipment logbooks, and compliance tracking to ensure smooth daily lab operations.
+ Participate in troubleshooting, deviation documentation, and continuous improvement efforts to enhance process reliability and lab efficiency.
+ Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field with 1–2 years of relevant experience, OR
+ Master of Science (M.S.) degree
+ Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
Technical Skills & Experience:
+ Hands-on experience conducting cell culture studies in small-scale or pilot lab environments
+ Skilled in assembling, disassembling, and cleaning bioreactors, including handling associated parts and probes
+ Proficient in setting up and maintaining both small-scale and pilot-scale bioreactors
+ Experienced in inoculating, feeding, and sampling from bioreactors and shake flasks
+ Competent in running samples on analytical instruments and compiling data and results
+ Familiar with maintaining cell culture passages
+ Adept at calibrating probes, autoclaving bioreactors aseptically, and preparing batch media
+ Comfortable using online data acquisition systems such as MFCS, DeltaV, and ambr for trend monitoring
+ Experienced with Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELN)
+ Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
