    Medical Imaging Quality Coordinator - Full Time - Days

     

    Department: RADIOLOGY DIAGNOSTIC

    Job Summary

    The Medical Imaging QA/QI Coordinator oversees quality assurance and improvement initiatives within the Medical Imaging department, ensures high-quality images, lowest achievable radiation dose and compliance with state and federal regulations. Performs QA testing quarterly or annually as specified and records results. Collaborates with physicist on quarterly CT, PET CT and Mammography testing and reports, as well as annual Ultrasound and Dental testing and reports. Also reviews and maintains physicist reports.

     

    Core Job Responsibilities

     

    + Ensures that imaging equipment is functioning correctly and calibrated properly.

    + Maintains equipment QA records and documentation for all radiation-producing devices or equipment within Medical Imaging.

    + Develops and implements quality assurance programs and protocols for medical imaging equipment.

    + Investigates and resolves technical quality issues or problems that arise during imaging procedures.

    + Reviews equipment service contracts and ensures all equipment is effectively covered. Ensures contracted vendors are meeting agreed upon requirements.

    + Processes purchase orders for parts and service not covered under contract.

    + Ensures that imaging practices comply with relevant regulations and standards set forth by the New York State Department of Health - Bureau of Environmental Radiation Protection (DOH-BERP), American College of Radiology (ACR) Food & Drug Administration (FDA), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and DNV (NIAHO Hospital Accrediting Agency). Maintains current knowledge of relevant regulations and standards.

    + Acts as team lead for accreditation and regulatory/compliance inspections. Initiates any remedial action and completes corrective action plan. Verifies compliance when plan is completed.

    + Works with modality supervisors to help them adhere to daily/weekly/monthly technologist-performed testing and documentation.

    + Works closely with physicist group to schedule required testing. Ensures equipment is reserved timely to minimize patient impact/workflow interruption. Reviews quarterly physicist reports for all units and addresses recommendations immediately.

    + Identifies areas for improvement in imaging processes and workflows.

    + Develops, implements and monitors quality improvement projects to address and solve identified issues.

    + Provides training and education to staff on quality assurance and quality improvement procedures.

    + Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to improve patient care and outcomes.

    + Develops and assists in staff training and use of equipment applications. Serves as an Epic Radiant principal trainer.

    + May be involved in budget planning and management for imaging department equipment.

    + Serves on hospital committees pertaining to imaging equipment and compliance, including Radiation Safety Committee.

    + May participate in the development and implementation of new imaging technologies.

    + Performs related duties as required.

     

    Education/Experience Requirements

    REQUIRED:

    + At least 5 years' experience as a technologist.

    + Expert knowledge of the New York State Department of Health Guide for Radiation Safety/Quality Assurance Programs.

    + Experience with multiple forms of diagnostic imaging software and hardware.

    + Proficient with MS Office (Excel).

    + Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations as they apply to QA testing in medical imaging.

    + Demonstrated time management skills.

    + Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

    + Ability to travel to worksites within the MVHS area.

    + Knowledge of physicist and QA testing reports.

     

    Licensure/Certification Requirements

    REQUIRED:

    + Current New York State Radiologic Technologist License. .
