Position Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic and strategic leader for the role of Director, Strategic Capabilities PPWR Environmental Packaging Compliance & Digital Strategy. This director-level position will be responsible for leading, developing, coordinating and governing MedTech organization’s end-to-end cross functional and cross business unit implementation strategy to ensure compliance with complex environmental packaging regulations and requirements such as EU Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation (EU PPWR), and building a packaging digital and data strategy to meet growing stakeholder needs.
The ideal candidate will collaborate with other MedTech Business Unit functions such as R&D, Packaging, Labeling, Product Stewardship, Regulatory Affairs, Legal and others to oversee the development and implementation of an overall strategy that includes but is not limited to packaging data collection and management, design control and record keeping, labeling, and promoting packaging design changes and business process improvements to ensure compliance with global packaging regulations and customer expectations.
This role supports all MedTech Business Units, including Vision.
Key Responsibilities:
+ **Scoping of initiatives** : Working closely with Product Stewardship, BU Packaging teams, Regulatory Policy, Legal, Government Affairs & Policy (GAP), Sustainability and other required functions, to scope the implementation of packaging regulations with focus on the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).
+ **Program / Project Management** : Using strong methodologies, create pertaining project plans, including budget development (CAR creations). Lead in developing business case(s) for budget/resource asks to the Business Units and communicating those asks to the BU leadership. Raising resource/budget asks to MedTech LTs as appropriate.
+ **Data Strategy Development** : Lead the creation of a robust and scalable data strategy that holistically encompasses all relevant initiatives, e.g., establishes a live data repository for product and packaging information, ensuring comprehensive compliance with complex environmental regulations such as EU PPWR requirements.
+ **Automation Capability** : Drive the automation of processes related to packaging data collection, technical file preparations, and the issuance of Declarations of Conformity, aimed at achieving operational efficiency and compliance by deadlines set in 2026 and beyond
+ **Digital Product Passport & Digital Labeling Initiatives** : Integrate digital product passport & digital labeling solutions, ensuring direct access to required data packets, e.g. for PPWR Instructions for Use and Patient Information Leaflets, contributing to enhanced regulatory compliance and user experience.
+ **Long-term Packaging Improvement** Formulate and implement plans in collaboration with Business Unit’s packaging SMEs geared toward more sustainable packaging in alignment with PPWR requirements (e.g., substances of concern, minimization, recyclability, recycled content and reuse)
+ **Cross-functional Collaboration** : Collaborate effectively with various business units to ensure alignment on packaging needs and support information requirements across MedTech.
+ **Monitoring and Reporting** : Establish metrics and KPIs to track progress towards compliance milestones, communicating updates to senior leadership as required.
+ **Advocacy:** Working closely with Product Stewardship Subject Matter Experts and J&J Government Affairs & Policy to support policy shaping and advocacy.
Qualifications:
**Education:** Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent University degree required; advanced degree preferred
Required:
+ Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant professional work experience
+ Strong understanding of EU & global regulations, particularly in packaging and sustainability.
+ Proven leadership experience at a director level or equivalent, preferably within the medical technology sector or a related field.
+ Demonstrated experience in managing large complex global projects.
+ Experience with communicating to senior leadership for project asks.
+ Ability to demonstrate project planning and execution of EU and/or a global regulation
+ Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of leading cross-functional teams.
Preferred:
+ Experience in data strategy development and implementation within a regulatory compliance framework
+ Experience with digital solutions and automation, Artificial Intelligence
+ Experience with working with external suppliers
Other:
+ May require up to 10% domestic and/or international travel to other sites and locations

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
$146,000 - $251,850/yr.
Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis. Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance. Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)). This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.
