Position Summary
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls ( UWRF ) is seeking a strategic leader who can effectively connect UWRF with the business community through the launch of the new University Business Collaboration Center ( UBCC ). The Director will help the UBCC pursue its mission to increase student learning opportunities and enhance discovery, innovation and talent development by bringing university and business resources together in STEM fields and beyond. This person will promote innovation within strategic partnership areas and serve as principal contact for internal and external stakeholders, helping the UBCC to become a major innovation and talent hub for the region.
Responsibilities
Fostering Business Outreach and Engagement:
+ Serves as the primary liaison between UWRF and external partners, connecting businesses with faculty expertise and student talent.
+ Provides consultation, advice, and expertise to organizations interested in developing a relationship with UWRF to solve a business or industry problem.
+ Engages with local and regional economic development organizations, chambers of commerce, and government agencies to promote UWRF as a major driver of regional prosperity.
+ Expands connections with campus partners for joint programming, specifically: St. Croix Valley Business Innovation Center, Small Business Development Center, Continuing Education, and Career Services.
+ Collaborates with area high schools, local technical colleges, and other UW institutions to enhance regional workforce development.
Implementing the UBCC mission:
+ Drives implementation of the UBCC mission across all academic units, promoting faculty and staff awareness and engagement.
+ Builds a comprehensive resource inventory of UWRF faculty expertise to facilitate industry collaborations.
+ Facilitates connections for development of joint research initiatives, industry-informed curricula and student experiential learning projects, as well as industry-applied research, technology transfer, and intellectual property protection.
+ Fosters student engagement in internship, research and career opportunities.
Provides Administrative Leadership:
+ Develops the UBCC operational framework, including a comprehensive partnership engagement plan, with a matrix for analysis of projects and requests, as well as mechanisms for external user access (systems for space and parking reservations, program scheduling, fees/agreements for cost recovery or payment of services, etc.).
+ Develops and implements an outreach and marketing strategy, in collaboration with University Marketing and Communications.
+ Develops UBCC programming opportunities in collaboration with campus, industry and community partners (speaker series, lectures, innovation and incubation events, etc.)
+ Collaborates with University Advancement and the Grants Office in the development of grant or private funding proposals to support the UBCC mission.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Required Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree
+ Minimum of five years of experience in industry, university-level applied research activities, or university-level outreach engagement activities
+ Experience developing and implementing strategic goals.
+ Experience with strategic decision-making and problem-solving
+ Excellent communication skills
+ Demonstrated capacity to establish/maintain productive intra- and/or interorganizational relationships
Valued But Not Required Qualifications:
+ Master’s degree in a relevant discipline
+ Experience collaborating with industry, higher education and/or government agencies. Understanding of applied research, technology transfer, and/or intellectual property
+ Experience with memoranda of understanding, nondisclosure agreements, and/or contractual agreements
+ Experience with budget management and reporting
+ Experience obtaining/managing grants, sponsorships, and/or philanthropic gifts
+ Experience managing client relationships and client expectations
+ Experience with Salesforce or other CRM platforms
