    Position Summary

    The Office of the Registrar at SUNY Geneseo provides exceptional service to the college community with the highest standards of integrity, accuracy, efficiency, and security. We collaborate with students, faculty, and staff to provide comprehensive management of enrollment and academic records. Our services include: maintaining academic records within the student information system, course scheduling, conferring degrees and overseeing the graduation process, supporting the Degree Works audit software, processing transfer credit, ensuring State and Federal compliance, and adhering to SUNY regulations.

     

    This Degree Conferral Specialist oversees all processing and reporting related to graduation at the College. The incumbent will be responsible for communicating with faculty, staff, and students regarding degree requirements, managing and analyzing graduation-related data, and ensuring accurate and prompt degree conferral. The position will be a key team member in the Office of the Registrar and will be responsible for a variety of graduation-related functions, including:

     

    + Develop and execute communication plans, and respond to all graduation-related communication from faculty, staff, and students

    + Analyze and maintain data related to student graduation

    + Review graduation applications and analyze degree audits to ensure accurate processing

    + Support Commencement planning and maintain official student lists for Commencement participation

    + Confer degrees in Banner and archive final Degree Works audit; work with advisors to secure waivers as necessary

    + Provide customer service within the Registrar’s Office and support other key functions as needed (e.g., transcript evaluation)

    Required Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    + Associate’s Degree and progressively responsible experience with academic processes.

    + Familiarity with degree program and university graduation requirements.

    + Excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical and communication skills with demonstrated ability to collaborate on and multi-task across complex issues and projects.

    + Ability to self-motivate and work independently and as part of a team with the ability to manage multiple assignments and projects.

    + A commitment to the campus values of diversity, equity and inclusion.

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

    + Be eligible to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Knowledge of computerized student information and reporting systems (e.g. Banner/Argos).

    Manage and respond to all graduation-related communication to the Graduation Records email/phone from students, parents, faculty, and staff; work directly with students/parents on degree-related issues. Develop communication plans around degree conferral processes for both students and academic and administrative departments.

    Analyze and maintain data related to student graduation in a given semester for dissemination to stakeholders across campus (e.g., Scheduling & Events, President’s Office, bookstore, Communications, Library, Residence Life, Office of Accessibility Services, etc.). Review all graduation applications and email students/advisors with next steps; analyze degree audits and graduation data to improve processing.

    Job Duty/ Responsibility

    Anticipate errors and facilitate communication with students/advisors/department chairs in cases where students are not eligible for degree conferral by their expected graduation date. Update expected graduation date for students as needed, including for students returning from withdrawals, leaves of absence, and students returning to complete. Communicate with students and advisors to ensure accuracy and transparency.

    Participate in Commencement planning committee facilitated by Events & Scheduling. Create the official list of graduating students and honors for Commencement, ensuring complete accuracy of data; maintain and distribute accurate lists of eligible students for Commencement to relevant parties.

    Archive final degree audits and confer degrees in Banner, verifying accuracy of information and adding notes to degree audit or EAB Navigate.
