Job Summary
The Infectious Disease Epidemiology Research Fellow in the Division of Therapeutics Research and Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the Department of Population Medicine (DPM) of Harvard Medical School and the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute will produce rigorous infectious disease epidemiology research to inform and improve clinical outcomes and patient care. The fellow will have the opportunity to lead and participate in various research projects with intense one-on-one mentorship by faculty members in our Division. Dr. Michael Klompas, Professor at DPM and Hospital Epidemiologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, will serve as the primary mentor, guiding federally and non-federally funded research focusing on improving identification and prevention of healthcare-associated infections and sepsis, optimizing antibiotic management, and preventing the spread of respiratory pathogens in healthcare. Specific projects will be determined based on the Fellow’s background and interests. Additionally, the Fellow will participate in grant preparation activities, including writing research plans, supporting budget preparation, and submitting IRB applications.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
1. Leads or participates in infectious disease, antibiotic stewardship, and healthcare-associated infections research and prevention projects.
2. Participates in the development of grant proposals, research protocols, surveillance plans, and analysis plans.
3. Prepares manuscripts detailing research findings and submits to peer-reviewed journals.
4. Presents research findings within and outside of the Department.
5. Works closely with DPM faculty mentor to monitor progress and resolve issues that arise during the course of the research.
6. Other duties and projects as assigned.
WHAT YOU NEED:
1. Doctoral degree (MD)
2. Advanced knowledge of epidemiologic methods and biostatistics.
3. Ability to learn techniques for analyzing complex electronic healthcare data.
4. Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
5. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
6. Ability to meet deadlines and work within budgets.
