Job Summary
The OR Central Supply Technician I is responsible for the cleaning, sterilization, assembly, and distribution of surgical instruments and supplies required for hospital operations. This role ensures compliance with infection control policies and procedures to maintain patient safety and operational efficiency within the Central Sterile Processing Department.
Essential Functions
+ Cleans, inspects, assembles, and sterilizes instruments and surgical supplies for hospital use, ensuring adherence to proper sterilization procedures.
+ Monitors and records daily autoclave functions, including Bowie-Dick tests, chemical, and biological indicators, reporting any discrepancies or malfunctions.
+ Maintains organized and accurately labeled storage of sterilized instruments and supplies to ensure accessibility and operational readiness.
+ Conducts routine maintenance and cleaning of autoclaves and other sterilization equipment, promptly reporting any issues to appropriate personnel.
+ Assists in the orientation and training of new personnel to ensure adherence to departmental procedures and standards.
+ Regularly inspects and replenishes inventory, including crash carts and surgical floor supply carts, replacing expired or depleted items.
+ Adheres to infection control policies, utilizing standard precautions to prevent hospital-acquired infections.
+ Ensures proper care and maintenance of equipment by cleaning after each use and inspecting for broken parts, frayed cords, or loose connections.
+ Communicates incidents, complaints, or equipment issues to licensed staff promptly and accurately.
+ Maintains cleanliness and organization of work areas, ensuring that all supplies and equipment are stored properly.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
+ Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
+ 0-2 years experience in central sterile processing or a related healthcare field required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
+ Basic understanding of sterilization and infection control procedures.
+ Attention to detail to ensure the accurate assembly and maintenance of surgical instruments and supplies.
+ Strong organizational skills to maintain inventory and ensure proper documentation.
+ Effective communication skills to interact with staff and report issues promptly.
+ Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Licenses and Certifications
+ CSPDT - Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Tech required
