Responsibilities
The financial counselor Specialist is responsible for determining patient liability based on benefits and advises patient of their liability prior to scheduled elective procedures. Verifies insurance eligibility, and benefits for emergent and urgent admissions procedures or other services ensuring communication of patient responsibility to the patient or responsible party. Verifies and secures accurate patient demographic and insurance information, updating patient account information as needed. Assists patients in making arrangement as needed for patient responsibility by time of discharges for emergent or urgent services. Pre-reg and making sure that all patients are financially cleared at least three days before the procedure. Maintains effective communication skills, including verbal, written and telephone.
Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
1. The financial counselor Specialist is responsible for scheduling of hospital services assigned, preregistration, insurance verification, referral coordination, pre-certification clearance. Assuring appropriate authorization is in place prior to services being rendered.
2. Routinely schedules outpatient testing for all patients where services occur as a scheduled appointment. Answers phone efficiently, providing timely and courteous access to the organization.
3. Verifies and secures accurate patient demographic and insurance information, updating patient account information as needed.
4. Verifies insurance eligibility, and benefits for elective, emergent and urgent admissions procedures, or other services.
5. Pre-reg and making sure that all patients are financially cleared at least three days before the procedure. Providing pre-service estimate communication and collection of any required copays, deductibles, or co-insurances.
6. Assists patients in making arrangement as needed for patient responsibility by time of discharges for emergent or urgent services and admissions.
7. Maintains effective communication skills, including verbal, written and telephone.
8. Supports departmental polices, practices, and initiatives in support of patient experience. Collaborates and coordinates to create a positive experience through the entire patient access.
9. High School Diploma or equivalent required.
10. Other duties as assigned.

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $17.17 to $23.55. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
