    Description

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

The AWS Facility Operations Center (FOC) team is seeking a Business Automation Engineer to serve as a technical resource and leader to drive the team’s long-term vision within the Data Center Community (DCC).

    Key job responsibilities

    • Lead the design, implementation, and delivery of business automation solutions in complex, ambiguous or poorly defined problem spaces.

    • Proactively work to improve the consistency and integration between the team’s business automation solutions and any related systems or artifacts (owned by other teams).

    • Influence the team’s technical and business strategy by making insightful contributions to team priorities and lead in identifying and solving architecture deficiencies that limit the innovation.

    • Able to communicate your ideas effectively to achieve the right outcome for the team and customer. Seek diverse perspectives, listen to feedback, and be willing to change direction if it creates a better outcome.

    • Lead design reviews for business automation solutions or analyses for the team and actively participate in reviews for partner teams.

    • Actively participate in the hiring process as well as mentor others - improving their skills, their knowledge of your business automation solutions, and their ability to get things done.

    • Influence technical decisions made by partner teams via collaborative software effort or by driving engineering best practices (e.g. analytical rigor, code quality, data quality, data modelling, operational excellence, automation, visualization).

    • Automate reporting and process solutions and data infrastructure improvements to meet business needs.

    About the team

The Facility Operations Center (FOC) is the centralized 24/7 remote monitoring hub for AWS power, cooling, and fire life safety infrastructure. The FOC supports global availability by identifying and communicating immediate risks to infrastructure to Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) and DCC senior leadership. We support event response through call facilitation, vendor engagement, partner team escalations, and vending of real time data to reduce event recovery time. The FOC owns post event reporting and analysis for customer impacting and System Impaired Events (SIE), to trend and improve performance metrics across the global data center fleet.

The FOC team is seeking a business automation engineer to design, develop, and implement technical solutions which promote efficiency, eliminate manual effort, and drive continuous improvement for our global team and customers within engineering and operations. You will partner with Data and Business Intelligence Engineers, and cross functional teams, to harness the vast amount of operational data from the AWS fleet, and will use this data to generate insights that will guide operational excellence and improvements on behalf AWS customers. In addition, you will build mechanisms that enable Engineering divisions to make informed, data driven, and streamlined business decisions. Data analysis is at the core Amazon’s culture, and your work will have a direct impact on decision making and strategy for our organization.
