    Join the Tactical Space Systems Division in a challenging and rewarding role as a **Senior Staff Lead Systems Engineer.** Successful candidates for this position will work in Gilbert, AZ in a lead technical or Integrated Product Team (IPT) lead role for a space vehicle in the National Security Space business area. This fast paced Systems Engineering role is responsible for leading the Systems Engineering technical team, which includes the following duties: systems analysis and trades, coordinating Vehicle Systems engineering activities, engineering baseline management, interface management, requirements/V&V management, subcontractor technical oversight, CAM/EVMS duties, integration & test campaign development and execution, preparing/presenting SE material at all major reviews and PMR’s and interfacing with program management, customer and SETA’s on all space segment technical issues.

     

    In this leadership level role, the Lead Systems Engineer is expected to be self-directed using previous experience to lead design, analysis and execution efforts. Duties include contributing to and leading specific mission, ground, or space vehicle systems engineering activities. Successful candidate will also be called upon to support other activities, including architecture studies, mission support, and traditional Systems Engineering functions. Candidates must be able to recognize and mitigate space segment technical issues and risks while operating within budget and on schedule. Candidate may be called on to assist in new business activities such as conceptual design and analysis for proposals and funded studies and may include authoring sections for both.

    Responsibilities:

    + Lead/Provide major support to the entire space vehicle technical team

    + Develop and lead solutions to complex analytical, design, and test problems that the program may experience

    + Develop, author and/or provide input to major program data products and other deliverables

    + Technical management of program elements

    + Planning and conduct of technical reviews and technical baseline

    + Writing status and technical performance reviews and reports

    + Mentor, coach, train, guide, direct and advise junior staff

     

    The candidate will work to guide a cross-discipline team and must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. The ability to work with a multitude of stakeholders is a must, to include a diverse community of engineers, managers, and customers to achieve the goals of both the individual program teams and the mission.

    Basic Qualifications:

    + BS Engineering degree and 14+ years of experience; or a master’s degree and 12+ years of experience

    + Experience in space systems design, development, manufacture, or test, including technical or project leadership positions

    + Have a strong background in systems engineering to include architectural studies, technical baseline definition, requirements & interface management, hardware/software integration, test planning & execution, or operational support

    + Ability to develop and manage system interfaces to integrate multi-element systems

    + Prior experience in technical or project leadership positions

    + Experience and/or training in Earned Value Management Systems

    + **Must have US Citizenship with current or active Top Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain SCI at time of application**

    Preferred Experience (one or more areas desired):

    + Experience with space systems development

    + Knowledge of satellite functions to include attitude control, power management, thermal control, propulsion, command and data handling, flight and ground software.

    + Experience in space system testing and evaluation (flight and ground testing)

    + Experience presenting to senior government customers and government contracted support

    + Experience working with a cross-discipline team

    + Experience with systems integration and test

    + Experience in any of the following areas is also desired: orbital mechanics, orbital debris modeling, spacecraft attitude control, power systems and modeling, avionics or digital electronics design, risk analysis, optics, communications, rocket propulsion, thermal engineering, or spacecraft integration and testing

    + Knowledge of Launch Vehicles, System Safety, System Reliability, Contamination Control, EMI, Space Environments (Radiation, Surface Charging, etc.), Mission Operations and Human Factors is also desired.

    + **Active or current TS/SCI Clearance**

    Salary Range: $162,500.00 - $243,700.00

     

    The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

     

    Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
