Description We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our team in New York, New York. This Contract-to-permanent position offers an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in managing financial operations, particularly in overseeing grant accounting and compliance. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in nonprofit financial management and a strong commitment to precision and efficiency.
Responsibilities:
• Manage accounting and compliance processes for city, state, and federal grants, ensuring accurate reporting and invoicing.
• Coordinate and support audits while partnering with leadership on budgeting and financial reporting tasks.
• Supervise the Bookkeeper and assist with payroll processing, accounts payable, and accounts receivable operations.
• Prepare and file tax documents, including 990 forms, consolidated fiscal reports, and investment analyses.
• Perform bank reconciliations and maintain detailed records for restricted funds and allocations.
• Ensure compliance with organizational policies, funder requirements, and regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with HR to process employee benefits payments and provide financial support.
• Work cross-functionally with teams to ensure financial accuracy and operational efficiency. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, with at least 3 years of experience in nonprofit financial management.
• Proficiency in FundEZ, Microsoft Excel, and preferably Paycom.
• Demonstrated experience with audits, grant management, and budgeting processes.
• Familiarity with government contracting, such as Medicaid and other agency-specific requirements, is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Excellent communication abilities and a commitment to continuous improvement.
• Knowledge of general ledger processes, journal entries, and month-end close procedures.
• Experience with accounting software such as NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, or FUND E-Z.
