The Microbiology & Immunology department has an exciting opportunity for a Post Doctoral Associate position. The incumbent performs scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Moreover, the Post Doctoral Associate promotes institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
+ Conducts research on specific areas of study as assigned.
+ Prepares research reports and technical papers for publishing.
+ Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories.
+ Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.
+ Develops advanced analytical models and systems and provides solutions and analyses to support strategic and tactical decisions.
+ Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
+ MD or Ph.D. in relevant field
+ No prior experience required
Department Specific FunctionsThe successful candidate will lead a project investigating the immune-cardiac stroma interphase in heart disease, using a combination of molecular and cellular biology approaches, mouse models of disease, and human samples and data sets. Key responsibilities and qualifications include:1. Design and execute in vitro and in vivo experiments in collaboration with immunobiology and cardiovascular physiology teams2. Analyze data, present findings at internal and external scientific meetings, and prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication3. Contribute to mentoring of trainees and fostering a collaborative, respectful, and welcoming lab environment4. Keep track of data, protocols and overall progress in updated laboratory notebooks and data folders’5. Communicate and meet frequently with the laboratory manager and Principal Investigator.6. Mining large sequencing data sets
Department Specific QualificationsEducation:PhD in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Physiology or related field
Experience:Experience working with mice (especially models of heart failure or cancer), Experience with mammalian cell culture, protein expression, flow cytometry, tissue sectioning, and immunofluorescence, cardiac fibroblast physiology functional mechanics testing and strong background in immunology and/or cardiovascular biology.Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:Effective communication and organizational skill, growth mindset, team work, problem solving and attention to detail
