Research Support Specialist
Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in biomedical sciences or a related field. Two (2) or more years of full-time research experience in a laboratory setting. Experience with basic molecular and cell biology.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in wetlab (cell culture, bench assays), dry lab (computational analysis), and mouse work.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Yang laboratory at Stony Brook is looking for postdoctoral fellows to join our starting group. Yang lab investigates the metabolic and inflammatory mechanisms driving retinal degenerative diseases, aging-related pathologies, and ocular fibrosis. We focus on understanding the complex interactions among retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells, macrophages/microglia, endothelial cells, and fibroblasts, with an emphasis on how metabolic reprogramming and inflammation contribute to disease progression. Substantial training will be provided for techniques. The ideal applicant will have the ability to demonstrate professional competence in research activities.
Duties:
+ Protein, RNA and DNA preparation and analyses; mammalian cell culture with sterile techniques.
+ Perform epigenetic analysis through next-generation sequencing library preparation (e.g. spatial genomics and metabolomics). Perform bioinformatics analysis.
+ Maintain mouse colony and perform eye function assessments.
+ Data analysis and participate in manuscript writing for publication; may assist in grant writing.
+ Maintain laboratory reagents and equipment.
+ Perform other duties as assigned such as training new personnel.
