    Assistant Technical Director & Concert Coordinator

    Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

    Bachelor's Degree. In lieu of degree, associate’s degree and two [2] years of directly related full time experience, or a combination of higher education and experience totaling four [4] full-time years may be considered. Two [2] years of full-time experience in technical theater, including lighting, scenery, sound, or set construction.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Bachelor's Degree in Theater or Production related field. Experience running set up and take downs of classical concerts in a professional theater. Experience running orchestra concerts in a professional theater. Experience in theater lighting installation, focusing, consoles, and software. Experience in digital cinematic projection (i.e. Panasonic & Christie). Experience in theater audio consoles, equipment, and audio operations. Supervisory experience in managing theatrical crews.

    Brief Description of Duties:

    This position is responsible for the day to day technical stage execution for the Department of Music concerts and recitals at Staller as well as Staller Center’s live season events, particularly SBSO and those in the Recital Hall. As a liaison between the Staller Center and Department of Music, this position will support all Department of Music supported events, including installing lights and sound, being the lead for SBSO, and Staller Center live season Recital Hall events. This position works with incoming companies, students, and departmental, campus and community groups. Responsible for supervising student and professional stagehands. Also responsible for the implementation of all set-ups and take-downs for Music and specific Staller events in the Staller Center. This position is also responsible for running film projection.

     

    + Execute the production needs for various performances in Staller Center. Liaise with House Manager & Box Office Manager to ensure that the backstage and front of house areas are in constant communication to properly run a performance. Under the guidance of Production Manager and Technical Directors, train and supervise all student crews working on Staller Center events. Assist with and oversee the set-up and take-down of all outside companies and organizations that rent the facility, particularly recital hall events and concerts for the Department of Music. This includes technical work in lighting, sound, scenery and rigging on the Main Stage, Recital Hall and Paul W. Zuccaire Gallery.

    + Oversee and execute SBSO and Recital Hall events, including Department of Music concerts, at Staller Center from load-in to load-out, including catering, hotel, lighting, rentals, sound, and all aspects of incoming performances. Work in cooperation with the sound and piano technicians in their use of Staller’s performance spaces

    + Be comfortable with operation and screening of digital media including films, METOpera simulcast and other projected events in Staller, after being trained by Technical Directors.

    MUSIC:

    + Oversee Department of Music rehearsals, preparing and executing the setup/takedown of the events, executing sets, rentals, piano tuning, catering, sound & lighting and all details for events. Interface with student, community, and professional performers to execute performance per the artist's wishes and the Staller Center space limitations.

    + Oversee and train crew for major Department of Music event rehearsals and night of show execution. This includes orchestra shell setup/strike, on stage equipment setup, managing cues and performance needs.

    + Manage Department of Music concert calendar in conjunction with Concert Manager.

    + Manage rehearsal run times and breaks for crews and performers.

    + Work with recording personnel as needed.

    + Maintenance of equipment (projectors, lighting, supplies) for upcoming events.

    + Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and department mission.

    Special Notes:

    This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.

     

    In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,400 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.

     

    For this position, we are unable to sponsor candidates for work visas.

     

    Must be capable of climbing three flights of stairs frequently and occasionally work on the theater grid above the stage. Must be capable of communicating by phone with clients as well as in person. Must be capable of frequently lifting material up to 30 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds.

     

    Evening and weekend work is required.
