    Job Summary

    The Systems Engineer is responsible for developing and engineering comprehensive material handling system solutions to support Carolina Handling, LLC’s sales and automation initiatives. This role involves designing efficient, cost-effective systems through conceptual planning, layout development, and equipment specification. The Systems Design Engineer collaborates closely with internal teams and external clients to translate operational challenges into tailored automation and material handling solutions. Success in this role requires a strong understanding of both conventional and advanced integrated systems, as well as the ability to present these solutions clearly through technical proposals and design documentation.

    Responsibilities

    • Travel to attend initial project kick-off meeting with sales and the customer to collect and analyze required field data (product specifications, sequence of operation, facility measurements, interferences, project restrictions, etc.) in efforts to start the conception and estimating process.

    • Develop initial design drawing concepts using AutoCAD and appropriate supplier drawing software as well as secure multiple competitive estimates of equipment and implementation services for sellable customer solutions.

    • Provide alternative design solutions to customer’s proposed solutions and ensure all proposed solutions adhere to customer equipment specifications and Carolina Handling, LLC requirements.

    • Generate timely accurate budgetary and firm proposals at Carolina Handling, LLC target profit margins to all of Carolina Handling, LLC

    • Complete equipment specifications.

    • System overview.

    • Material specification / cut sheets.

    • PDF drawing of the system layout completed with 3D views that will clarify systems functionality and Carolina Handling, LLC competitive advantage.

    • Effectively communicate application solutions, concepts and estimates to Engineers, Order Processors and Project Managers for implementation.

    • Performs administrative duties as necessary to meet organizational objectives.

    • Support Site Surveys for projects, complete and review all related administrative requirements to build an accurate bill of material and eventual quote.

    • Assist in Order Entry, Project Scheduling and other tasks to support the Warehouse Team.

    • Supports administrative, sales dept, and warehouse staff in assigned projects.

    • Maintain quotation log by product type and monetary value.

    • Communicate and maintain positive relationships with internal team as well as Carolina Handling, LLC customers to assist in the overall company goals and customer satisfaction.

    • Support Sales reps in designing and presenting storage and retrieval solutions to customer

    • Create liaison relationship with material and labor vendors

    Requirements

    All potential hires are subject to pre-employment checks which include but are not limited to background checks, drug screenings, and motor vehicle record checks.

     

    • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, etc.).

    • 4-6 years of experience in material handling application development preferred.

    • Well organized, detail oriented, prioritizes and plan work activities.

    • Manages competing demands; uses time efficiently.

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    • A team player who can work well in a multitasking environment.

    Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

     

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job unless it causes undue hardship.

     

    This position is classified as medium work, involving the operation of motor vehicles and heavy equipment, as well as movement to complete tasks or transition between work sites. Physical demands include the ability to frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Manual dexterity is necessary for equipment operation, computer use, writing, and handling materials. Clear articulation and voice control are essential for effective communication with both internal and external customers via telephone. Specific vision abilities essential for this role include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

     

    This role entails working in a dynamic environment, encompassing both office-based tasks and visits to customer sites, involving regular interaction with internal and external customers. Travel to customer locations for sales calls and presentations is a requirement, potentially exposing the individual to diverse environments, including the risk of encountering harmful or corrosive chemicals if proper safety protocols are not followed. Additionally, the role often involves exposure to various outdoor weather conditions. The individual in this position must adeptly manage strict deadlines, shifting priorities, and a high volume of information flow while consistently upholding professionalism. Standard office equipment such as laptops and smartphones are routinely utilized, and noise levels typically range from moderate to high.

     

    Travel Requirements: Daily/Weekly travel to customer sites is required; Occasional travel may be required based on the location and scope of the project, for meetings and/or conferences.
