    Position Overview

    The Resident Assistant Supervisor at Marillac Family Shelter in Albany, NY ensures a safe, healthy, clean, and positive environment for resident families as they make their transition from homelessness through aftercare. This role is responsible for managing overall program operations during evening and weekend shifts, while maintaining a respectful, supportive, caring and family-style atmosphere for all residents and staff members.

    Experience & Requirements

     

    + Ability to work: Monday-Thursday & Saturdays: 4:00pm-12am w/ flexibility as needed.

    + Associate’s Degree, required; BSW or Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, preferred.

    + Prior supervisory experience in homeless services and relatable life experience may be considered in lieu of education.

    + Clean and Valid New York State Driver’s License (actively licensed at least one year) required.

    + Knowledge of community resources is beneficial.

    + Formal crisis intervention training is a plus!

    + Previous experience working in a human services agency is a plus!

    + Experience with Microsoft Office Suite & Google Business Suite; use secure Internet practices

    + Capable of building strong working relationships with regulatory bodies.

    + A compassionate, warm and caring mindset; Capable of exhibiting empathy for those in crisis.

    + Capacity and openness to work with populations from culturally diverse and economically disadvantaged backgrounds, including but not limited to a broad range of people with various developmental and functional levels.

    + Qualities of positivity, flexibility and adaptability; A professional record of integrity, proven reliability and dependability.

    + Ethical, independent judgment and discretion; handle sensitive data with strict confidentiality.

     

    Duties & Responsibilities

     

    + Establish and maintain professional working relationships with residents as well as other Shelter staff, keeping appropriate personal boundaries in accordance with all agency policies, procedures and practices.

    + Supervise Resident Assistant staff, Senior Resident Assistants, and provide oversight of the Activities Coordinator while providing documentation and feedback regarding job performance to each staff and to the Program Director as necessary.

    + Intervene in crisis situations and assist with conflict resolution as needed by providing mediation and facilitating communication.

    + Participate in professional development programming on a regular basis.

    + Rotate the on-call beeper and provide coverage of the program when needed.

    + Document interactions with families, using critical incident reports, intake information forms, progress note section of case files, log, etc. Ensure the Resident Assistant staff document all resident activity in HMIS.

    + Clearly communicate concerns and suggestions to Program Director.

    + Actively contribute to the maintenance of a “client supportive” and respectful community.

    + Manage responsibilities of telephone and reception desk staff.

    + Additional position-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
