Job Title Compliance Specialist - Title IX Investigations

General Job Description
This is a professional position responsible for supporting university compliance with Title IX legislation. Responsible for conducting investigations of discrimination complaints and coordinating and assisting with case management. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Director/Title IX Coordinator.
Essential Job Functions
1. Stays abreast of federal, state, and local laws, statutes, regulations, codes, and standards related to Title IX legislation.
2. Collaborates with various departments to advertise programming and improve awareness, comprehension, and the consistent application of relevant university policies and procedures.
3. Conducts investigations of Title IX discrimination complaints, including allegations of sexual assault, sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, relationship violence, and stalking.
4. Interprets and explains university policies and procedures related to Title IX.
5. Writes investigative reports regarding the process and findings of investigations. Works with the Office of the Dean of Students to determine appropriate sanctions as needed.
6. Identifies and facilitates access to resources and services available for complainants.
7. Identifies patterns and/or systemic problems revealed by complaints and recommends solutions.
8. Coordinates and assists with the management of cases involving referrals experiencing medical, mental, and/or behavioral emergencies.
9. Acts as liaison between department and other campus service staff to refer and follow-up on student cases.
10. Monitors, tracks, and reports on Title IX compliance activities and the status of complaints and investigations.
11. Prepares and analyzes various reports.
12. Maintains and updates department records and database.
13. Ensures confidentiality.
Non-Essential Job Functions
1. Participates in community presentations and events.
2. Assists with coordinating and delivering Title IX training and prevention and awareness programming, presentations, and events, as assigned.
3. Assists with student conduct/behavior cases to facilitate Title IX investigations when needed.
4. Works evenings, nights, and weekends, as necessary.
5. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
1. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.
2. Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, statutes, regulations, codes, and standards related to the area of responsibility.
3. Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
4. Organizational skills in managing projects simultaneously while maintaining a satisfactory work product.
5. Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
6. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
7. Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
8. Ability to work effectively and patiently with students.
9. Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
10. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
Physical Demands
Required Education
Bachelor’s degree in human services, social work, psychology, counseling, education, student affairs administration, or a related field is required. Related experience may be substituted for required education on a basis set forth by the Department of Human Resources.
Required Experience and Training
One year of related experience is required. Experience with student conduct administration, student development, or employee relations is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience conducting investigations is preferred.
Special Conditions for Eligibility
This is a security-sensitive position subject to criminal record check.
This is an IT-sensitive position subject to SFA’s computer and network security policy.

Benefit and Retirement Eligibility
This position is eligible for participation in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
