Position Overview
The Marillac Van Driver serves to ensure a safe, healthy, clean and positive environment for the resident families as they make their transition from homelessness through after care. This position is responsible for the safety and careful transportation of the Marillac Family Shelter’s residents from one location to another; Performing regular upkeep and maintenance of the Shelter’s vehicles; Maintaining a respectful, supportive, and caring family atmosphere for all residents and fellow staff members of the facility.
Experience & Requirements
+ Ability to work: Monday - Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm w/ flexibility as needed.
+ High School diploma / GED Equivalent, required.
+ A current Clean and Valid New York State Driver’s License (actively licensed at least one year) - is required*
+ Previous client transportation experience is a preferred.
+ Comfortable working around individuals with mental health issues, substance abuse and/or developmental disabilities.
+ Previous experience working in a human services agency is a plus!
+ Capacity and openness to work with populations from culturally diverse and economically disadvantaged backgrounds, including but not limited to a broad range of people with various developmental and functional levels.
+ Have a professional record of integrity, proven reliability and dependability; with qualities of positivity, flexibility and adaptability.
+ Capable of exercising ethical, independent judgment and discretion, and handle sensitive data with strict confidentiality.
+ Complete pre-employment background check requirements, including fingerprinting.
*Staff in driving positions must be able to meet the agency’s minimum requirements of our insurance policy for authorized drivers including, but not limited to, the minimum age of 21 at time of hire; with the ability to maintain insurability throughout employment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
+ Establish and maintain professional and supportive working relationships with residents and staff members, in accordance with all agency procedures, policies and practices; Maintain appropriate personal boundaries.
+ Provide transportation for facility Residents to/from designated drop-off points.
+ Post sign-up sheets for all scheduled transportation trips.
+ Maintain logs/reports of all conducted transportation activities.
+ Provide transportation related to Food Bank pick-ups, donated items, and Resident moves (admissions and discharges).
+ Maintain and safeguard facility vehicles in order to ensure safe, clean and dependable operating conditions.
+ Perform facility maintenance and repair functions as assigned.
+ Document significant interactions with Resident families, using critical incident reports, progress notes section of the case file, log, etc.
+ Respect the rights of others and protect all confidential information, at all times.
+ Clearly communicate concerns and suggestions to supervisor.
+ Actively contribute to the mindset of a “client supportive” and respectful community.
+ Other position-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
