Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking a Thermal Engineering Manager 2 to support our growing thermal engineering team in advanced technology development programs.

What You'll Get To Do** **:

This is a dual-role technical manager position including people management and direct program leadership contribution. The split between program and functional duties will be approximately 80% program and 20% functional, on average. The direct program work may include technical work in the form of thermal analysis, IPT leadership, or any other appropriate technical contribution.

Key roles and responsibilities include:

+ Supporting a team of 10-15 technical staff in management role. Administrative management responsibilities include staffing, performance and compensation management, and career development.

+ Executing as a member of the MDA thermal team supporting various MDA programs.

+ Being accountable to stakeholders and program managers for status updates, issue resolution, and overall engineering execution.

+ Providing technical leadership to the team and ensuring proper engineering processes and procedures are followed.

+ Working with peers and training leads to identify critical skill shortfalls, developing appropriate technical training, and improving team performance.

_This position requires_** **work on site** **_at Northrop Grumman’s Baltimore, MD area facilities in Linthicum or Annapolis Junction, MD._

Basic Qualifications:

+ Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or related field specializing in thermodynamics and heat transfer with 8+ years of relevant experience; Master of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or related field specializing in thermodynamics and heat transfer with 6+ years of relevant experience or PhD with Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or related field specializing in thermodynamics and heat transfer 4+ years of relevant experience.

+ Proficiency using a combination of commercial thermal analysis software (COMSOL, IcePak, ANSYS, etc.), custom code, and hand calculations to perform thermal simulations.

+ Demonstrated experience in setting-up, executing, and post-processing thermal experiments for the purpose of thermal model validation and material characterization.

+ Strong leadership qualities, including excellent communication and collaboration, team engagement, and organizational skills.

+ This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. Citizen.

+ Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance per customer requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Master’s degree or PhD in Physics, Engineering, or a related field specializing in thermodynamics and heat transfer.

+ Working knowledge of cryogenic test systems including dilution refrigerators, 4K cryo-coolers, adiabatic demagnetization refrigeration systems, and liquid helium immersion systems.

+ Demonstrated success leading high performance teams as technical, integrated product team, and/or functional leader.

+ Experience with Lean-Agile development for hardware systems.

+ Experience leading teams in a functional, programmatic, or technical capacity.

+ Active U.S. government security clearance.

Salary Range: $149,400.00 - $234,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
