We are seeking an experienced Backend Platform Engineer to lead the design and development of internal platform services and cloud infrastructure that enhance developer velocity and operational excellence at scale. This role is perfect for an engineer who enjoys tackling complex challenges, simplifying processes, and empowering product teams to move forward confidently.
Responsibilities
+ Develop reliable, scalable, and secure backend platform services using Java (preferred) or Python, focusing on internal developer workflows such as CI/CD, provisioning, and bootstrapping.
+ Create core Platform Components of the Internal Developer Platform (IDP), enhancing self-service capabilities and reducing effort across engineering teams.
+ Design and implement Cloud Infrastructure using Terraform and modern AWS services like EKS, IAM, Lambda, EC2, and S3, adhering to infrastructure-as-code and GitOps best practices.
+ Integrate monitoring, tracing, and alerting tools such as CloudWatch, Datadog, and ELK into platform foundations to ensure reliability and observability.
+ Contribute to technical designs and participate in PR reviews.
+ Promote operational excellence through proactive incident response, on-call participation, and leading postmortem efforts to enhance platform resilience.
+ Collaborate with product, security, and operation teams to prioritize platform capabilities that drive innovation and reduce cognitive load for developers.
+ Evaluate, upgrade, and implement new tools, frameworks, and language versions.
+ Assist in creating training and onboarding programs for new customers.
+ Lead Agile/Kanban workflows and team process improvement.
+ Troubleshoot customer issues as needed and manage details in JIRA and PagerDuty on-call systems.
Essential Skills
+ 6+ years of experience in backend development using Java (preferred) or Python.
+ 6+ years of experience working with AWS and building cloud-native infrastructure.
+ 3+ years of experience deploying and operating Kubernetes workloads in EKS or similar environments.
+ Deep experience in DevOps and Automation, including building CI/CD pipelines using Terraform, Java, or Jenkins.
+ Security expertise in implementing role-based access, IAM policies, AD integration, and using security tools for vulnerability scanning and remediation.
+ Proficiency in monitoring and observability using CloudWatch, Datadog, and Elastic Search.
+ Expertise in distributed systems, networking, and systems reliability principles.
+ Proven track record of technical ownership in complex engineering environments.
+ Ability to navigate ambiguity and rapidly evolving requirements with a strong bias for action.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with Java, platform services, and AWS technologies.
Work Environment
The position involves a flexible work environment with the option to work 1-2 days in the office per week. Employees will utilize modern technologies and tools such as Java, AWS services, Terraform, and monitoring tools like CloudWatch and Datadog. The team operates using Agile/Kanban workflows to ensure efficient and effective processes.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $75.00/hr.
