    Scope of Job

     

    To provide instructional design support to faculty and staff for the planning, design and development of instructional courseware for traditional, online and hybrid modality courses assuring that courses meet best practices and recommendations for accessibility and quality assurance policies.

    Description of Duties

    + Plans, designs, develops, and implements curriculum material and courseware for both traditional and online courses in compliance with applicable federal and state guidelines.

    + Responsible for consulting and coordinating with faculty for the design and development of instructional materials.

    + Provides support and advice in producing digital instructional materials.

    + Researches, supports and maintains current and best practices in instructional design.

    + Provides technological support and assistance to faculty with accessibility requests to meet the needs of the requests in compliance with state and federal accessibility standards. Consults with faculty and administrators in the design, development and evaluation of the curriculum, instructional methods and materials, research projects and instructional technologies.

    + Provides individualized assistance to faculty redesigning or converting online courses.

    + Responsible for conducts seminars, workshops, training and courses on various education and technology related topics.

    + Ensure that all courses and course components are student-centered, enable the intended learning outcomes, as well as meet university values/standards, accessibility requirements, and universal design guidelines.

    + Provides support to faculty and staff in the preparation of grant applications to obtain funding for curriculum development or academic research projects.

    + Represents the department and the University on various committees and in various teaching positions.

    + Evaluates relevant emerging technologies that have potential value for teaching and learning for further review.

    + Supports and applies best practices of Universal Design for Learning to assist faculty in the development of course materials that are accessible to all students.

    + Stay abreast of emerging technologies and their application to enhancing face-to-face and online courses; recommends effective and creative uses of technology and andragogy to enhance instruction and create new learning opportunities.

    + Supports the development of virtual worlds and immersive learning environments.

    + Generates activity reports and coordinates and documents small projects.

    + Performs other duties as assigned.

    General supervision from assigned supervisor.

    Direct supervision of assigned staff.

    Required Education

    Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited University.

    Preferred Education

    Bachelor’s degree in education, instructional design / technology, from an accredited University.

     

    Licenses/Certifications

     

    None.

    Required Experience

    Two (2) years of experience as an instructional designer, course developer, educator or performing closely related duties.

    Preferred Experience

    Experience obtained in a higher-education setting to include experience conducting training.

     

    Equipment

     

    Use of standard office equipment.

    Working Conditions

    Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Office Environment; some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

    Knowledge of current and emerging technology, learning and instructional theory, instructional design principles, design process, and interface design principles. Ability to work as a team member and to establish effective working relationships. Ability to effectively use interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
