    Position Summary:

    The Anesthesia Technician is responsible for assisting members of the Anesthesia department by performing specific procedures required to ready the patient for surgery.

     

    Responsible for the care and preparation of anesthesia equipment/supplies according to the established procedure.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

    1. Turn-over of operating rooms:

    1. Between each case in the operating room the Anesthesia Technician will discard disposable anesthesia equipment appropriately and replace used non-disposable anesthesia equipment with like equipment.

    2. Between each case the anesthesia equipment will be assessed for cleanliness and, if necessary, the equipment, cart and monitors will be wiped down with appropriate anti-bacterial solution.

    3. Between each case, the anesthesia carts will be restocked and on an as-needed basis.

    4. Facilitate the flow of the operating rooms and procedures where anesthesia is involved whether in or out of the operating room suite.

    5. Ordering, from the warehouse or by special order, and stocking of workroom supplies.

    6. Maintain a neat and organized workroom which will always be in a “stat” or ”ready” status as the needs of the Anesthesia department are dictated by those of the Operating Room or anywhere else on campus where anesthesia may be involved.

    7. Maintain turnover of supplies in the workroom as indicated by expiration dates of supplies.

    8. Prepare IV set-ups.

    9. Make-up pressure lines for invasive monitoring, calibrate transducers.

    10. Set-up hotline with blood tubing.

    11. Picking up, stocking of pharmacy orders, rotating stock, and checking for medication expiration dates.

    12. Maintain open communication with the CRNA’s and the anesthesiology staff to facilitate the needs of patient care.

    13. Manage supplies, calibration, and basic troubleshooting of anesthesia gas tanks and equipment and replace as needed with involvement of the Workroom Coordinator, Clinical Engineering, and the Chief of Anesthesia Services.

    14. Clean anesthesia machines and equipment.

    15. Assist with regional anesthesia procedures.

    16. Once the orientation process and evaluation of skills is complete ongoing leaning is expected to maintain and improve operations and increase the growth of the anesthesia department.

    17. Performs other related job duties as requested

    _Required:_

    * High School Diploma or GED

    * One year of prior work experience in a Hospital work environment

    * BLS certification from American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent, is required before start date and valid at least 60 days beyond start date.

    Certification through the American Association of Nurse Anesthesia Technicians
