Position Summary
Coordinates and delivers career development programming, resource materials, and/or advising to students and alumni. Educates students, alumni, and other stakeholders about career development and opportunities and maintains relationships to aid in effective career planning. Supervises unit staff and/or has significant program management authority/responsibility, and strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.
Responsibilities
+ Oversees coordination and delivery of all Career Services presentations for classes and student organizations, including managing and responding to requests, creating presentation content, determining appropriate presenters (professional staff, student staff, or employer partners) based on audience and topic, and delivering presentations
+ Provides oversight of the Peer Advising Program, including responsibility for recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising a team of student employees and regular assessment of the program’s effectiveness
+ Conducts individual career counseling appointments for current students and alumni on topics including resume and cover letter writing, job and internship searching, interview preparation, mock interviews, and LinkedIn profile development
+ Develops and maintains accessible student and alumni-facing electronic resources, including directing peer advisors to implement updates and improvements when necessary
+ Actively monitors developments in labor market trends and the Career Services field to ensure presentation content, appointment guidance, electronic resources, and peer advisor training align with current best practices
+ Serves as the primary point of contact for all alumni communication and service requests
+ Supports and advances campus-wide career readiness initiatives, including collaborating with the University Business Collaboration Center ( UBCC ) to maximize student access to real-world experiences, professional networks, and career-aligned opportunities that promote post-graduation success
+ Participates in campus-wide career services community providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered by the school/college/unit
+ Responds to questions and provides information regarding student services, policies, procedures, and employment preparation
+ May identify and maintain a professional network of employers or other stakeholders to facilitate career exploration and employment opportunities for students
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Required:
+ Bachelor’s Degree
+ Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including a demonstrated commitment to providing clear, timely responses and reliable follow-through in all interactions with students, colleagues, clients, or customers
+ Demonstrated knowledge of career development theories, resources, and best practices including writing effective resumes and cover letters and exceling in an interview setting
+ Demonstrated ability to design and deliver effective presentations or workshops
+ Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a group and cultivate a positive, productive, and professional team dynamic
Preferred:
+ Previous career-focused counseling, coaching, or advising experience
+ Previous experience designing and delivering career-related programming, workshops, or presentations
+ Previous experience managing student employees
