We are seeking an experienced **Information Defense Forensic Engineer** to join our cybersecurity team in Arlington, VA. In this role, you will proactively identify, investigate, and respond to advanced threats across our digital environment. You will leverage threat intelligence, behavioral analytics, and forensic techniques to detect malicious activity, analyze incidents, and support incident response efforts.
Responsibilities
+ Conduct forensic analysis of digital devices, including computers, mobile devices, and removable media, ensuring data integrity and chain of custody.
+ Generate detailed forensic and investigative reports for legal proceedings and internal use.
+ Effectively coordinate with other teams, internal or external, to analyze findings and with the potential to support in legal proceedings.
+ Perform proactive cyber threat hunting and advanced incident response across multiple networks.
+ Monitor, detect, and analyze cyber threats using industry-standard tools and custom countermeasures.
+ Analyze network, firewall, IPS, and system logs to identify and respond to security incidents.
+ Investigate malicious emails, assess impact, and document findings.
+ Develop and implement defensive countermeasures and security assessments for new technologies.
+ Collaborate with Network Operations Security Center (NOSC) and other stakeholders to contain and remediate incidents.
+ Maintain and operate unattributable network infrastructure as required
+ Share cyber threat intelligence with clients, government agencies, and contractors as appropriate.
+ Identify and respond to potential insider threats.
+ Conduct research analysis on the latest tools and make recommendations on employing new tools in the enterprise.
+ Stay current with emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and forensic methodologies.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Security, or related field OR
+ Associate’s degree with 3+ years relevant experience, OR
+ High school diploma or GED equivalent with 5+ years relevant experience may substitute.
+ DoD Top Secret Clearance with SCI/SAP eligibility required
Desired Qualifications:
+ GCFA (GIAC Certified Forensic Analyst)
+ GCIH (GIAC Certified Incident Handler)
+ CCE (Certified Computer Examiner)
+ CFCE (Certified Forensic Computer Examiner)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
+ Proven experience in digital forensics, cyber threat hunting, and incident response
+ Proficiency with forensic tool suites such as EnCase, Axiom, FTK, and FRED
+ Strong knowledge of file systems, registry analysis, and metadata examination
+ Strong knowledge of Windows, Linux, and network protocols
+ Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems
+ Understanding of networking protocols (HTTP, DNS, SMB) and log analysis
+ Familiarity with malware analysis and reconstruction
+ Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
+ Strong oral and written communication skills
+ Ability to work independently and collaboratively in high-pressure environments
+ Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and legal standards in evidence handling
