Job Description

Renders direct nursing care to assigned patients and carries out other nursing tasks and functions including technical/laboratory procedures. Assists the professional nurse in the provision of nursing care on the clinical unit

Job Responsibility

+ Assists the registered nurse in provision of nursing care.

+ Gives direct patient care as assigned by the professional nurse.

+ Administers medications and treatments according to policy.

+ Observes, records and reports patients vital signs, symptoms and general condition to appropriate staff member.

+ Prepares for and assists physicians and others with diagnostic procedures and treatments.

+ Assists in patients' teaching program.

+ Gathers data from patient/family which is used by Registered Nurse in making the initial assessment and developing a nursing care plan.

+ Recognizes emergencies and initiates action.

+ Maintains records relating to patient care

+ Records nursing care given, observations and patients' responses to nursing interventions on progress notes.

+ Charts medications and treatments administered and patients' reaction to same.

+ Participates in gathering data on patients upon admission to provide information from which a nursing care plan can be developed.

+ Assists in maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients by keeping the patient's bedside unit and surroundings clean, safe and noise free as possible.

+ Performs related duties, as required.

Job Qualification

+ High School Diploma or equivalent, required.

+ Completed accredited Practical Nurse program, required.

+ Licensed as a Practical Nurse in the State of New York

+ Previous related experience preferred.

The salary range for this position is $34.94-$37.52/hour
